BAGHDAD -- Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki struck a conciliatory tone ahead of his trip to Washington, talking about his gratitude for U.S. sacrifices in Iraq, and offering to negotiate a settlement between Iraq's federal government and the country's Kurdish enclave as tensions heighten between the two.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal as he prepared for a visit to the U.S. on July 21, Mr. Maliki said he planned to thank America for its shared sacrifice with the Iraqi people in the tumultuous post-Saddam Hussein years since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
"We have [achieved] a combined victory against terrorism, and there have been sacrifices from both sides that brought fruitful results and democracy to Iraq," Mr. Maliki said.

Will we finally be getting some free oil?
Iraq no longer has a brutal dictator and those WMD which were a part of Iraq's program, are hopefully no longer a threat.
Alqueda...Little by little...
DO NOT HAVE BHUSSEINO IN THE SHOT.
A "THANK YOU" PICTURE SHOULD ONLY BE OF PRESIDENT BUSH!!!
That's what I want to know.
Talk is cheap (look at the White House).
Pay back what it cost the U.S., at least monetarily, to put you in a seat of power that would have been impossible not long ago.
That would be only a token acknowledgment to the families who have lost their REAL treasures forever.
Regarding Iraq’s gratitude, I’m reminded of this event:
Prince Felix Schwartenberg of Austria was asked in 1848 how his country would respond to Russia’s help putting down a Hungarian insurrection. “Austria,” he replied, “will astound the world with the magnitude of her ingratitude.” ....

Amen to that!!! -7bama should be nowhere NEAR that photo.
Nope..we gave up any chance of being paid back when the Dems painted the war as "blood for oil".
They even ruined our chance at American firms getting some of the oil contracts. Something else to thank Dems for.
How did that make it impossible for us to get oil cheap or contracts?
bttt

This will explain the contracts. The Dems succeeded in blocking the no bid contracts.
The perception of “blood for oil” tied the Bush Administration’s hands on trying to use Iraqi oil revenue to repay war debt.
OK, thanks
You’re welcome.
Indeed.
We traded him in and installed an Islamic Republic. One with close ties to Iran.
Somehow I don't think that is what most Americans hoped would come of this nation building adventure. This one can come back and bite us worse then Vietnam.
I thought we surrendered last week.
Saddam Hussein was as evil as Hitler and his Bathist party was patterned after the National Socialist Party in Germany. At least the mass graves South of Baghdad that had women and childrens clothing around the edges are no longer being filled
Will we see new mass graves in the north?
Probably none we'll be allowed to know about.
