Los Angeles city officials say $1.4 million was spent to provide security, traffic control and other services surrounding Michael Jackson's memorial service.

The police department said Wednesday that more than 4,000 officers worked to secure Staples Center, Forest Lawn cemetery, and other areas that attracted fans and members of the media. Their deployment cost $1.1 million in overtime pay.

Brooke Shields said that he was somewhere up there sitting on a crescent moon.

Perhaps the grief over Michael Jackson’s death was not as pandemic as the media was saying?

They kept telling people NOT to go there unless they were one of the recipients of tickets for admission, that they would be better off watching from home. I guess people actually listened this time.

They had a lot more cops than they needed.

They probably should have treated it like a Lakers game.

What I found most disgraceful is when the Jackson’s put his daughter on the stage as a prop and they were hovering behind her like hungry, dark wraiths, without any sympathetic expressions for the little girl.

"did you see how many people showed up their from out of town? estimated 100 million in rev. from his death to ca. good trade imo.

I'm in no way defending the pedophile (alleged) Jackson, nor this, this, this whatever you want to call it - spectacle. But, in addition to what you've mentioned, Jackson's estate tax will more than cover, probably 20 or 30 times over, the cost of this funeral.

Plus, the additional sales tax from Jackson memorabilia, if it's anything like Elvis, will be in the millions each year for dozens and dozens of years. Regardless of what initial capital expense the city, county and state incurred, they'll will make it up or perhaps already have made it up.

I watched it on the news. You're description is perfect. While I think the girl's statement was probably spontaneous and the emotion clearly genuine, when they were adjusting the mike and hoovering around her, it made me ill.

As they say, kids always get the raw end of the deal, and in this case, it's no different.

Bless her that was a bit over the top in a wacky way.

Otherwise I thought she did a good job. The Little Prince is a lovely book.

I noticed she had not actually seen him since the early 90s I am guessing she realized he was not acting right or something.

If it's anything like Elvis' estate, the profits will be at least $50 million a year.

She had to have been sleeping in a cave for 22 years to not notice MJ was not acting right or morphing into some sort of sideshow freak.

So...none of the mega-millionaire "stars" that performed at the fest...and none of the many Hollywood mega-millionare Limosine Liberal celebs and tearful, wealthy, famous LOVING MJ friends...chipped in to help PAY this debt that the little people of LA--immigrants and poor and such--will now have to bear?

Brooke? Steevie? Mariah? Liz? Diana?...Bueller?

Better donate a lot. IIRC, entry level for an LAPD officer is about $50K a year...

Al Sharpton comparing MJ’s so called “lifetime accomplishments” to the struggles MLK dealt with in an entirely different era, besides being laughable were way over the top. If MJ truly had ended racial inequalities like Sharpton says, Sharpton would be out of work. It’s the idea of racial inequalities that keep shakedown artists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in business.
