Apparently Sarah Palin's decision to quit her post as Governor of Alaska wasn't as misguided as it sounded at first, because it has certainly already begun to work it's magic on winning over the Republican party. According to a new USA Today/Gallup Poll, her popularity has surged amongst Republicans since she made the announcement.
71 percent of Republicans said they would vote for Palin if she ran for president in 2012, and three-fourths believe that Palin has been treated unfairly by the media.
Two-thirds of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future, while three-fourths of Democrats are hoping that she won't be. Independents by 55%-34% would prefer she leave the national stage.
And neither will some well trained and armed men with thick necks.
We, the people. The real majority of this country. The people who didn't go to Ivy League schools, the people who had better things to do than get a law degree. The people who didn't drink the Marxist cool-aid at Berkeley or the post-modernist crap at Duke, the people who just want to live their lives and love their families and be left alone to do that. The people who aren't invited onto CNN or Fox News to give their opinions. The people who don't even know what Current TV is, let alone have so much time on their hands as to make a show for Al Gore's network.
We're the people who sit around a fire in the woods or the back yard, drinking beer and making s'mores, not the people who dress up and go to swanky dinner parties where they sip white wine and nibble on exotic cheese. We like cheese, too, but prefer cheddar to gouda, and if we're feeling a bit rambunctious, some pepper jack.
In fact, most of us don't like ties at all (if we're male). Give us a t-shirt, or a polo, if we want to dress up.
We believe that hard work is a virtue, and getting benefits from the government is not--regardless of any other consideration.
We think that Congress should actually read the bills they pass into law.
We think that Congress, for that matter, should actually read and comprehend the Constitution that they swear to uphold.
When we think of our history, and the Boston Tea Party, the first thing that comes to mind is NOT a homosexual sex act.
We understand "Take this job and shove it." We occasionally sing it loudly and off-key, when we're having a bit too much fun at the local watering hole.
We understand charity. We are willing to give to those who need it. We are not willing to do that at gunpoint, however.
We understand stewardship. We expect it from our elected officials. We do not often see it from them, however.
What we want more than anything else is to leave our fellow citizens alone, and be left alone to live our own lives without bowing down to some Ivy League lawyer who says he or she knows better than we do how to spend our money.
The Democratic Party elites don't speak for us. The Republican Party elites don't speak for us. The media doesn't speak for us.
Nobody speaks for us, in fact. Nobody with any kind of power, that is. So we talk amongst ourselves, after church, at happy hour, at Free Republic and some other places on the Internet.
We are Flyover Country. We are the Little People. We are Americans.
And we're getting very angry.
(And, occasionally, ranting feels really, really good.)
There are Republican and Democrat elitists. And Sarah has effectively cut them ALL off at the knees and they don’t like it. However, there isn’t going to be a blinking thing about the way she will sweep to success through the “people”!! This lady knew exactly what she was doing and she’s no quitter. She resigned to spare Alaska. Like she said, all these months of frivolous ethics attacks have caused her office and staff to work on nothing much but these attacks and thereby not be effective for the State of Alaska. I thought it was a very un-selfish move. And God will reward her and give her much favour with those that count. She will be catapulted into a top position. Wait and see. She has garnered more headlines in the last week than Obuma himself.!! I can see that the Beltway hates this. They are all self-centered self serving fat pigs. They have not a single care about the country. Their aim is to get re-elected and keep their snouts in the public trough forever. CO
Whether she had resigned or not this was inevitable, and not just amongst the GOP members.
There is only one living person in politics who personifies the vision for our nation held and emboldened by Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan.
You took the words right out of my mouth Sharkey!! “Waves” from the North country. CO
Kristol has been spot-on about Sarah from the get-go. Unlike Ch. K, BK likes the fact that SP isn't an elitist beltway insider. He finds it refeshing, as do most of us. And he fully realizes that her charisma, likability, and political instincts make her by far the biggest star among the current GOP leadership prospects.
You got that right!
Depends on whether one sees this as the nadir, or the beginning of a larger rise in popularity for S Palin.
I adore S Palin, but she has work to do to polish her message and style, otherwise she will be a sort of Conservative Urban Legend..
This is clearly over your head Mrs. Peel!!
SW, she always was our golden Sarah.
And where did you get the fabulous photo?!
Sarah America!
Nice rant. You should publish it. I like Gouda though.
A conservative would have a chance of winning. I am an Independent. I do not play the D vs. R games.
Oh, pleeeeeeeeeze! I just don't buy that spin. And if she becomes Prez, do you honestly think she won't have to battle any frivolous law suits? Bill Clinton showed us you can be Prez and be sued.
What's she going to do then? Resign to spare the country?
The photo is from a slideshow from a local Auburn/Syracuse newspaper site when she visited Auburn. Lovely isn’t it?
Thank you;)
Yup, that too!! CO
Law suits against Presidents go nowhere. In any event, I reiterate, you are clearly to dense to answer. You are stuck on Oh pleeeeze and “cry me a river”, so knock yourself out Mrs. Peel!! CO

I am concerned about the fact that the independents seem to be distinctly less enamored of her than are we conservatives. That is significant because ultimately it is the defendants who decide the elections.
I also posted somewhere else at the time but I cannot now find it that I hoped that I was wrong in my assessment. It looks like I can be happy for now.
Thanks for the heads up.I am glad you won our difference of opinion.
