Republican candidates hold leads in all three of Virginias 2009 statewide races, according to a new poll released Tuesday.
Former state Attorney General Bob McDonnell leads State Sen. Creigh Deeds 49 percent to 43 percent in the states gubernatorial race, according to an automated poll released by Public Policy Polling. Eight percent were undecided.
In the contests for lieutenant governor and attorney general, GOP nominees also led their Democratic opponents by margins outside the polls 4-percentage-point margin of error. The poll, conducted June 30 to July 2, surveyed 617 likely general election voters.
Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling leads challenger Jody Wagner, formerly the states secretary of finance, in his reelection bid by 46 percent to 40 percent, with 13 percent undecided. In the attorney generals race, state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli leads Del. Steve Shannon 45 percent to 38 percent, with 18 percent undecided.
The surge of support for Deeds that followed his June 9 primary win appears to have receded a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted just after the primary showed Deeds leading McDonnell by six percentage points. That lead diminished to four percentage points by June 15, according to a poll commissioned by the Democratic Governors Association.
The PPP poll showed McDonnell leading Deeds among voters who do not identify with either of the two major parties, 54 percent to 33 percent, with 14 percent undecided. But Deeds strong Democratic support he pulls 86 percent of his own party, with only 4 percent voicing support for McDonnell suggests that the party has united against the Republican following Virginias bruising, three-way Democratic primary.

Thank GOD. It’s about time my commonwealth got back on the right track.
This fellow Virginian could NOT agree more. Go McDonnell!!!!
We just might get our state back!!

This great news for McDonnell and terrible news for Deeds. McDonnell leads by 21 points among independents, a very bad sign for the democrats. And if Deeds has the support of 86% of his party yet still trails McDonnell by 6 then the Wash Po’s favorite candidate is in deep doo doo.
There is a storm brewing ladies and gentlemen. The outrage over the behavior and policies of the demoncrats is percolating. 1994 saw a sea-change in Congress over far less liberal stupidity than we are witnessing now. I’m confident that 2010 will be a bloodbath against the socialists.
I pray you're correct.

Wow, Deeds was ahead just after he won the primary. I find that surprising.
I also hope you are right... but Aren’t you forgetting the $8.5Billion to Acorn? Voter fraud will be rampant for 2010.
“Thank GOD. Its about time my commonwealth got back on the right track”
We still have to see them get elected, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction.
Heard on the news today, Tim Kaine has refused to honor a FOIA request for his travel data — whether he’s been using state $ for DNC travel.
“These GOP candidates had better beware of the Acorn and democrat communist methods of fixing elections using dead people and illegal immigrant voting and other criminal communist election fixes.”
Not as easy to pull off in VA as it is in places like Ohio or MN. In this state you have to show a photo ID.
“This fellow Virginian could NOT agree more.”
Amen. At some point in the future, Mrs. Jubal and myself plan on moving back to our native Commonwealth and farming my families little 100 acres of hill dirt. We have done pretty well, but we sure do miss home.-—JM
We sure have a lot of change in Virginia, and you can thank the nearest democrat, not saying the damn republicans will do one bit better.
Didn’t Kaine admit two weeks ago that his out-of-town-on-dnc-business security detail was paid for by Virginia tax dollars and that he would reimburse the Commonwealth’s taxpayers? If he made this statement then he has no legal grounds whatsoever to stand in the way of an FOIA request.
The things McDonnell is doing very right is running hard out of the box and calling to make VA a jobs state and pointing out the obvious that democraps are ruining the economy. I suggest that these basic things be used by the GOP.
I hope you are right. We had 5,000 at the Dayton Tea Party on July 3. I found this amazing, in that it was not in Dayton, but in Brookville, about 15 miles away, so it was inconvenient as hell.
I will be volunteering this cycle. I’m 1 for 3 right now with 2004, 06, 08. Need to get back even.
I’m more concerned about the flood of out-of-state money that will make its way into the Deeds campaign in the coming months. Deeds exhausted much of his war chest in the Democratic primary, while McDonnell coasted to victory. Right now, McDonnell is the only candidate on the airwaves, because Deeds is tapped out.
But rest assured, the Dems will find a way to replenish Deeds’ coffers, legally and illegally. I still think the race is McDonnell’s to lose. He’s been a very successful—and popular—attorney general. As a Virginia Beach native, he’ll run strong in Hampton Roads, pulling a lot of votes in areas (Norfolk) that are supposedly trending Democratic.
Still, the race is anything but assured. I encourage everyone to consider a donation to McDonnell’s campaign.
Looks like there are some in our state finally coming to their senses!
