It's a familiar sight. Touring teenagers perched on the Capitol steps, listening with varying levels of attention to their representative welcoming them to where laws and history are made.
But Scott Garrett uses the occasion his own way.
"I explain something they won't hear anywhere else,'' says Garrett, a four-term Republican congressman from New Jersey's 5th District. "They won't read it in textbooks."
So he describes the rise of the Supreme Court from a relatively weak office to a third, co-equal branch of government. Part of why it happened, he says, was the erection 75 years ago of the neoclassical temple that's home to the court, visible to students just behind Garrett.

Thanks for the PING!
Scott is a bright gem in a state full of dull drones. Thank goodness for northwest NJ, the “Republican red” part of the state.
And God bless you, Scott!

I had the good fortune, a few months ago, to have a brief
phone conversation with the good Congressman. One of my
employers has been active for several years with the RNC,
and he was calling to convey a message.
He seemed very down to Earth and we discussed that the
DEMs maybe setting themselves up for a fall at the ballot
box over their aggressive new policies.

I’ve worked with Scott in politics for over a decade. He is one of the few politicians I like and respect. He is a very down-to-earth guy, too.

One hopes they are not replaced by globalist Rhinos aka 'moderate' Republicans!

I'm proud to have Scott represent my district. Even from the time he was in the NJ Legislature, he's never waivered from his fiscal and social conservative positions. I'm glad he took those positions and values intact when he went to DC.
Garrett is the ONLY NJ politician I have any respect for.

Garrett is the ONLY NJ politician I have any respect for. AMEN to that! I met Scott a few times, first when he challenged Marge in a primary around 1998. He was the same guy even after he had won the seat in congress. We need a lot more like Scott.
