It was hard for the Democrats to get the 219 votes they needed to pass the "cap and trade" climate change bill in the U.S. House two weeks ago. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, may have rolled the dice but, veteran Capitol Hillers say, it was only the intervention of President Barack Obama and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel that managed to close the deal.
They did it by pitching the vote as a referendum, at least internally, on Obama's presidency rather than on the underlying issue. No president likes to lose, least of all on a signature issue like the need to combat climate change, so the White House ratcheted up the stakes and, one presumes, took down names.
Of course the Democrats had help from eight Republicans, who are now on the receiving end of criticism of their own. It's gotten so thick, reports one senior Republican aide, the defecting GOPers are looking to members of the leadership to bail them out. Those requests have, thus far, fallen on deaf ears, the attitude being that those eight Republican "Aye" votes allowed eight potentially vulnerable Democrats to skate on what was, for them, a tough vote.
Now the bill heads to the U.S. Senate, where it may face an even tougher time, according to an analysis of the vote by Phil Kerpen, of the pro-taxpayer group Americans for Prosperity. Having crunched the numbers, Kerpen points out that out of 50 state delegations, 28 voted "No" and only 22 voted "Aye" on the House bill, and that more than a quarter of the votes in came from just two states: New York and California. In these tough times that's really not the place to be.
It should be called “Crap and Tirade”.
The Obamaloon and his Loon-O-Tics are prime examples of why a college education should be strictly limited to only those capable of logic and thought.
Crap and Trade is a prime example of what happens when those with no-talent and abilities (but big egos) meet real world problems.
Better no energy policy than a foolish one.
Even better...it should be called “CRAP and TAX”
At least the message on the T-shirt doesn’t say, “You trade us, we cap you.”
Here is the problem.
The RATS are so invested in this at the ground floor level that they are going to fight to the death for Crap and Betrayed.
This is nothing more than a ponzi scheme for RATS and Donors who are already invested in this. This can end very quickly. Start following the money of everyone invested in Green projects. You will find that most of the donors are RATS.
“It should be called Crap and Tirade.
or...
“Crap and Fade”
And cap and tax is not really even an energy policy. It is more just a tax policy trying to make viable energy too expensive.
Oh No—anyone against this energy policy is a NAZI per Al Gorebat.
Nooooo
payoffs baby.
You vote for what I want and you get taken care of.....
Chickens, meet roost.
Actions ALWAYS speak louder than words!
Well, except the House victory seems to be chiefly the result of New York and California, each of whose voices in the Senate are the same as each flyover mining/drilling state. This will go down to a lopsided ignominy in the Senate.
All plans for coal power plants have been dropped or stopped mid construction.
We will be experiencing rolling blackouts before his 4 years are up.
