Reporting from Beijing -- China's worst ethnic violence in years broke out Sunday in the northwestern city of Urumqi, leaving 140 people dead and more than 800 injured, the state news agency Xinhua reported.
The unrest pitted Uighurs, a long-aggrieved Muslim minority, against the Han Chinese, who increasingly dominate the far-flung Xinjiang region. With the death toll climbing over the course of the day, the violence appeared to be far deadlier than that last year in the Tibetan region.

Training exercise for the coming insertion of forces in the Middle East theater of war. When the Americans leave Afghanistan and Iraq, there is going to be a resurgence of Islamic militancy, and the Chinese like to assure themselves the flow of oil to their industrial base will not be curtailed.
They are fast building a blue-water naval strike force, and when it is ready, they shall have the capability for carrying their form of “diplomacy” about anywhere they want to go.

There are Muslims in China? Who knew. I wonder how accepting the Chinese will be towards Sharia law. This should be fun to watch.
