Poll: Americans becoming more conservative @ 10:56 am by Eric Zimmermann
Americans' political ideology is shifting rightward, a new Gallup poll finds.
39% of respondents say they have become more conservative in the last few years, compared to 18% who have become more liberal. 42% have not changed.
Here's the breakdown based on party identification:
How does one square this poll with the results of the 2008 election, which Democrats more or less swept? First, look at the specific issues. Gallup tests the ideological trend by examining opinion changes on a number of policies. Americans have indeed become more conservative on gun control and the environment, but more liberal on healthcare and immigration.
Second, when Americans describe themselves as "more conservative" or "more liberal," they probably don't align those terms with a specific party, as pollsters and strategists do. "Conservative" could mean "cautious," rather than "Republican," for example.
Sounds like the kids are starting to become adults.
maybe this nation needed a reality check.

Obama won by campaigning as a conservative: 95% of Americans will get a tax cut
Monday, June 29, 2009: WASHINGTON The White House left open the possibility Sunday that President Barack Obama might pay for his health care overhaul by taxing employer-provided health insurance even though he had campaigned on not raising taxes on middle-class families.
if Obama compromises on that point, it would reverse his promise not to raise taxes on those earning less than $250,000. I pledge that under my plan, no one making less than $250,000 a year will see any type of tax increase, Obama told a crowd in Dover, N.H., last year. Not income tax, not capital gains taxes, not any kind of tax. Obama has faced similar criticism before. When he increased taxes on tobacco to pay for a childrens health bill, his critics said he was raising taxes on those making less than $250,000 a year.

pass the popcorn, please....
Maybe this is what happens when everyone is out of a job because of bad liberal policies.
Lets hope so.
B.S.
What has really changed is the definition of conservative.
Don’t forget, Bush was a “far right conservative”...
These polls are superficial. If the country is so conservative, why do we have the most radical left wing government in our entire history?
Let’s revisit this subject in November 2010. Polls don’t matter. Elections do.
“If the country is so conservative, why do we have the most radical left wing government in our entire history?”
Because the election was a backlash against an unpopular president & because Obama ran as a moderate. He kept talking about getting the gov’t out of debt. Of course, he wasn’t questioned by the MSM on how those statements didn’t jibe with the liberal policies he was also promoting.
My mother is a life-long Republican who voted for Obama (to my everlasting shame & horror)& still instists he’s a moderate. Of course, her tv is tuned to CNN all day (or ABC to watch The View), so what can I expect?
Heck anyone slightly right of Obama, is now a “conservative”...............
My wife is a life long Democrat who voted Republican for the very first time last November. Even she knew BHO was over the top.
Witnessing full blown liberalism will do that to ya.
We have one because it was not allowed by the MSM or by John McCain to mention just how radical Obama is.
As far as I can tell, it STILL isn’t allowed.
They’ll become even more conservative when Sarah Palin starts speaking across the country. ;o)
Because he was considered the 'cool black guy'. Blacks voted for him because they were thrilled to see someone who looked like them in the national election. White folks voted for him either because they're consistently liberal, or they were voting based on white guilt. Since that white guilt has been assuaged, they won't feel the need to do it again.
Yes, to some people Che is cool too, judging from all the Che bumperstickers and tee shirts I’ve seen.
To me Che is about as cool as Adolf Eichmann.
BFD. They think conservative, they vote liberal. Then, for an encore, they act surprised when the government acts liberal.
