Stimulus plan not working politically either
The Washington Examiner ^ | 07/05/09 | Chris Stirewalt

When President Obama signed his stimulus into law in February, Democrats issued grave warnings of the price Republicans would pay for their opposition to the bill. “Americans will hold House Republicans accountable for ‘just saying no’ to the largest tax cut in American history and saving and creating three to four million jobs,” said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., who also serves as head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. There are still about 140 million jobs still left in the country, so taken in the broadest possible sense, Democrats have exceeded their promise on the “save” end of the equation. It’s hard in the face of recent unemployment numbers, though, to suggest that the "create" part is doing so well. Every Republican and six Democrats in the House ignored President Obama’s dire warnings about how the failure to pass the largest spending bill in American history could result in unemployment of almost 9 percent. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told the Washington Post that there would be voters “in districts all over the country that will wonder why, when there’s a good bill to get the economy moving again, while we still seem to be playing political gotcha.” But that was back in the days when mere As it turns out, helping spendthrift states balance their budgets and giving the elderly and disabled onetime payments of $250 hasn’t had the impact that Van Hollen and his team thought it would.

Ah yes. By the same logic, the Captain of the Titanic kept her afloat for hours by hitting the iceberg.

More proof that the political class never learned the distinction between causation and correlation....also explains their acceptance of global warming etc.

I LOVE this pin.

I also LOVE the logo - by 2012, the Democrats will be hoisted upon their own “hope and change” petard.

Just PLEASE drop McCain.

“saving and creating three to four million jobs,”

non sequitur!

The Stimulus funds temporary jobs. It doesn’t create any self sustaining jobs (which are the only jobs that count). Only companies that produce real products that people watn can do that.

Yeah, I just hope the Examiner isn’t just preachin’ to the choir...honestly, any reasonable person would know printing money was an ASSWIPE way to “stimulate” the economy.

But no one with the power to do so would stand up to B.O. and his band of numbnuts and say “NO!”

I give credit to the Republicans for saying NO in unison...one of the few times in recent months they all did something right. Of course, they need to learn the ultimate lesson: if, by some MIRACLE they ever control the purse strings again, they need to spend less.

We’ll see if that happens.
