Im confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly though she couldnt put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but its obvious.
Even though shes just a state governor, shes a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically cant participate because shes tethered to the governors office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also cant go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in because shes governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.
Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so shes leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.
Its a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what shes doing. Contrary to Mark Sanfords e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didnt know who he was. Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill OReilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but and she didnt say this part shes too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.
Shell be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry both of whom went back to the Senate because their national campaigns diminished them. Palins national campaign made her a major star. As she said, shes not retreating, shes advancing in another direction.
Look at how much experience Obama has. And he never accomplished a fraction of what Palin has done. ***
You vote for people most like you. The left are a bunch of tools, so they voted for a tool. The right wants cowboys and girls.
As I wrote in my profile many many years ago, I can’t think of a single issue on which I’ve disagreed with Ann about (she violated that once, but she came around to my way of thinking about a month later, so I still count it true.) This is an another example.
I don’t see how anyone can take something else away from Sarah’s announcement other than what Ann writes here.
Nice work spotting the troll.
But the bigger war would be with the Murkowski Political Machine,
You know, I forgot all about the fight she had with the Alaska Republican party. She was fighting on two fronts.
Thanks. I did wonder. Sounds like the Viking Kitties provided a timely ZOT!
Yes..but still applies here!
Thanks again for posting, SW. Great, succinct piece by Ann Coulter. Obviously she can think and communicate clearly.
And love the photo of Sarah!
Where to begin? You’re wrong on every count.
Stand back and behold what is about to take place over the next several years.
“She didnt keep her oath, or her word. When the tough times came, she cut and run.”
Oh my oh my. Hey, how much have you sent to her legal defense fund? What have YOU done to make the times less tough for this honorable public servant whom you claim to have previously supported?
STFU !!!
(Forgive my french, FReepers.)
You do know that was a setup, don't you? The teacher of the class handed Dan Quayle a card with the spelling 'potatoe'. And being a polite and respectful guest in the room, he deferred to the teacher's spelling, and got hammered for it.
Once again, a Republican Senator assumed that the false politeness and fellowship of the Senate carried over into real life politics and the MSM for Republicans the way it does for Democrats. Quayle wasn't dumb, but he was not enough of the street politician.
More like you were demanding she do that, and when she tries something else you bail on her.
I do think she laid this trap for herself by putting in the new ethics law, where anybody can raise a complaint. While it allows good folks to keep bad folks in line, it also allows bad folks to tie down the good folks. There's no way she would be able to get that law modified without charges of hypocrisy. Her successors would be wise to change the law to limit the frivolous complaints in some way.
But given that the trap was sprung, she needs to get out of it.
Arguing that everybody will think she quit is arguing that the MSM controls all thought. If that's the case, then we are lost, as they could also say that she went back to Alaska to hide should she stay as Gov. Certainly if she stayed as Gov, we'd hear little positive about Alaska down here in the lower 48. And if Sarah did come down and speak, and the MSM will say that she is neglecting Alaska. Considering what Obama and the MSM are doing, we need a strong conservative voice now on the national stage. I don't think we have 6 years for her to be in apprenticeship in Alaska.
Considering the assault she's been under, if she stays on the national stage in any manner, I'll think that she's proved her mettle.
What you believe is a minority opinion (as it should be) here. You can go on believing what you want to, but you convince no one else. Sometimes you guys seem to think everyone else is crazy except you.
yongin might be another troll. Check the pattern of his/her? posts.
I’m glad you have tough relatives up there in AK. If they were being slandered and mocked every day in the MSM and National Enquirer all across America, it might not be quite so easy to take, however.
I know Sarah is tough and determined. It’s a shame what the media/politicians are doing to her...and painful to watch the everyday attacks—I for one think she’s too good for D.C. politics and would be glad to see her spared the abuse of running for the office of Pres.

Well, I can't argue with you on that point, but we need those kinds of good people in DC.
On the other hand, any good people who go to DC seem to have a fight on their hands.

I do believe that you should be saying this to yourself...by the way, who are, "you guys"? Republicans? Freepers? Maybe you should check out who you are talking to before you decide to pigeon hole the person you have decided to mock. Oh, and for your information, I wasn't trying to convince anyone of anything. I was doing what this site is for--and what the nation is about: exorcising my free speech rights, giving my opinion. Minority or not, I am welcome to spell it out, here. If you don't have anything to contribute to the conversation, besides criticism, please don't say anything at all to me. Thank you.
