Weary Palin seeks to regain control

Why did Sarah Palin step down?

Theories abound. But some of the people closest to the Alaska governor say she wanted to regain control of a political script that slipped out of her hands the moment she burst onto the national stage. She also wanted to shield herself and her family from the attacks that seem to have been aimed permanently at them in the 311 days since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced her as his running mate, according to some former campaign aides and other advisers who speak regularly with Palin or her husband, Todd.

The Sarah Palin who stood outside her Wasilla, Alaska, lakefront home Friday to surrender her term with 18 months remaining appeared vulnerable and anything but the pugnacious hockey mom and combative candidate whom Americans came to either adore or revile. The woman who said she would never blink suddenly...

It would certainly make things very interesting.

You've hit the nail on the head with this one, my FRiend.

I was on a thread yesterday where we were discussing the first-blush reactions to Sarah's announcement and a bunch of us all agreed that this could lead to the most politically interesting chapter in our lives. The pieces are all there. It remains to be seen whether they will all come together or fly apart somehow and Sarah is the key to the whole thing.

We shall see what we shall see. :0)

I know and that is what is breaking my heart. When I heard her resignation speech, it was like all the life was slowly oozing from my body. It was like I received a fatal body blow from DE LA HOYA. I was that consumer by grief and despair and I couldn’t even take comfort from Palin’s attempt at reassurance.

I agree. She kicked Letterman’s ass and deservedly so! He had it coming for a long time. I’m just glad somebody finally did it.

I still think they will make a blatent “example” of her by continuing to ruin her life. Remember, she still has considerable standing with the Conservative base and her future political ambitions are...unclear. Time will tell.

Thanks, Tex-Con-Man, for making the paragraphs to a wonderfully written “two cents worth” by nuvista.

Since there is a vacuum in the GOP and in the conservative movement Sarah has shown incredible courage.

If she will take up the banner, I will gladly follow. Our cause to save the Constitution and our way of life is too important to not put on a full court press.

This tripe about destroying her chance to be president is foolish. She is only 45 years old and has at least 3 shots at the job.

Those against Palin need to get real, they will do and say anything to stop this populous movement.

Give this some thought, we desperately need a leader and we may have found one. Ourah!

Sarah Palin is a Mom and has great family values. She is a Christian who is proud of her faith. She is not one of those almost apologetic conservatives who try to be liked by liberal who will never like them anyway. She knew she was having a downs child and still brought this precious life into the world. She stood by her unmarried pregnant daughter. She seems like a decent person. I don’t know if her political instincts are good enough for a successful run for the presidency.

“...leaving herself open to criticism from the media and even other Republicans”.

Here’s a newsflash, these people criticize her no matter what!

I don’t care what the liberal drive-by media and RINOS do or think! Sounds to me like she’s got them in a tizzy!

Amen, Letterman is a tool. He was completely out of line with that stupid comment about a child.

I know exactly what you mean...I was shocked and disappointed as well. Gov. Palin had been pretty well beat up and not just by Dems either during the election. But I believed her route for a comeback was to be a good governor and just hang in there demonstrating her grit and intelligence. Now that Sanford is out, who will be our candidate? I was never crazy about Sanford anyway.

I just don’t get it. If Sarah resigned to pursue higher office then I don’t understand her behavior. When you run for office, you make a promise to the people of your state. sorry, I can’t help looking at this logically. Also, we have been burned by our presidential candidates. Next time, I want a really good one.

I think most Alaskans understand her move, liberals attacking her relentlessly from just about every angle: media, pundits, and of course those within her own government up in Alaska, sabotaging her every move...so why stay in such an ineffecctual environment, unable to actually do the job she promised?

It’s unconventional, but when you actually think about it, we desperately need people working against this corrupt government from the outside!

She’s got all the conservative features in a person we need, so she’s got my support! Period!

Maybe, I still think she handed her enemies weapons to be used against her.

She had that chance as governor and she did it so why leave?

Huh? She didn't. Not at all. Her time would be devoted to lawsuits, not the people's business.

Reading is so fundamental!

I see per TeamSarah.org she’s looking to set up local groups. One of her people Marjorie Dannenfelser is going to be on Cavuto Monday PM.

I agree Sarah will be criticized no matter what. So why handle the resignation in a way that gives her enemies a chance to hint at all sorts of scandals and call her names like ‘quitter’. It’s not just the Dems either Newt, Huckabee and Rove were very critical of Palin’s decision to resign in this way-it could have been handled more thoughtfully. Of course some posters believe this is part of the Palin plan and that this brouhaha serves a purpose...I do not understand political finesse-not being a particularly tactful person so this may very well be true. I hope it is.

Who wrote your trollpoints up to where you said I don’t know if her political instincts are good enough for a successful run for the presidency.?

Don't play dumb with me, "Conse". (Is that supposed to be an abbreviation for the word Conservative?) You don't fool me one bit.

Ev is being purposefully thickheaded. How many times and how many people have told her the same thing and she keeps why-why-whying it. Attempting to sow seeds of doubt and dissension. Don't fall for it.

I was thinking of her trying to get with a RL type to ‘get the word out’ with a built in venue

He is to much of a lightning rod for public office, believe a couple of years ago he ‘won’ a contest as being high on the charts as most ‘loved’ and most ‘hated’..in the same poll...
