Why did Sarah Palin step down?
Theories abound. But some of the people closest to the Alaska governor say she wanted to regain control of a political script that slipped out of her hands the moment she burst onto the national stage. She also wanted to shield herself and her family from the attacks that seem to have been aimed permanently at them in the 311 days since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced her as his running mate, according to some former campaign aides and other advisers who speak regularly with Palin or her husband, Todd.
The Sarah Palin who stood outside her Wasilla, Alaska, lakefront home Friday to surrender her term with 18 months remaining appeared vulnerable and anything but the pugnacious hockey mom and combative candidate whom Americans came to either adore or revile. The woman who said she would never blink suddenly...

Maybe she’ll run for state senator of Alaska...
You are incoherent and make little sense. People who disagree with you are not Obama supporters.
President Bush was a governor when he ran for president. He did not quit mid-term. He used his office effectively. Sarah could say anything she wanted as governor and many have used this bully pulpit while running for president. The way this was done makes her look very calculating (political) or like a quitter (could not stand the heat). This resignation was done poorly because it raises more questions than it answers and leaves her open to criticism. I just don’t see how this action was helpful to Palin or the GOP. By the way,one can disagree with out being disagreeable.
The left doesn’t even respect death. They hound people to their grave and even after. The only thing that stops them is their own demise.
I can’t argue. The GOP has disappointed me also, but the alternative is to let the Dems win who knows how many times before a viable third party comes into existence-a terrifying thought.
Amen. Thank you for your post.
Well, when you have no choice but to create a new alternative, you simply do it in spite of the oddsmakers (what I call the political bookies).
We’re Americans. That’s what we do.
I am neither troll or idiot.
I call em as I see em and often I shoot from the hip which sometimes gets me into trouble with even some conservatives from time to time.
I denounced the republican controlled Congress when they went on a spending binge and I denounced Bush for allowing it to happen, things that got me into trouble with conservatives then as now.
My reasoning about Palin stems more out of what the MSM will make of her decision and you know it will use it to even further do more damage to her reputation and character.
You don’t know how much I wish it weren’t so but it’s a fact and it’s already started. We’d be fools to ignore it.
I can not even imagine what the Dems could accomplish if they broke up the GOP...glad someone else sees the dangers.
Palin will also be able to go after her opponents unfettered and make money for herself and her family. It has cost the Palin’s personally, $500,000 to defend her against frivolous lawsuits.
You are correct...no matter what reasons for resigning Palin had, she did it very badly...leaving herself open to criticism from the media and even other Republicans.
She will make money giving speeches I expect-more power to her. I don’t believe politically she will be a force in 2010 or 2012. Perhaps she will adopt worthy causes like as one poster suggested the disabled.
Gee, I’m sorry, but I’m not buying what you’re selling.
The “media” is going to go after Palin (and her family) no matter what she does. They are afraid and they should be. Now the game has changed. I’m loving it.
What you say about the concubine media is true. I think what a lot of FReepers are saying is that Sarah's move changes the game and she now has a great opportunity to fight back against exactly the media attacks that you are talking about.
The attacks *will* come. Nobody thinks they won't. But the difference is that now Sarah and her supporters can kick the concubine media's @ss when they do.
I think a third party will emerge eventually. But can you really believe that a second term for Obama would be a good thing? Keep in mind that the Republicans had run lower level candidates and lost one presidential election before they successfully elected Lincoln.

Spreading rumours is malicious. It is not discussing an issue or having an opinion. It's slander.
You misread the situation. The media is not ‘afraid’ of Sarah Palin, they use her for ratings.
Nonsense...pretty much anytime we have an opinion on any subject, one could be accused of spreading rumors...these rumors are already on this forum.
And maybe she won't run for any darned political office at all. She said what she said. This is what she is doing for now. Only time will tell what her political aspirations may come to be.
IMO, those who continue to spread rumors in a backhanded way by speculating what she may do are the opposition: Dims, Leftist Liberals, Zerobots, weak-spined Republicans and RINOS.
