Palin attorney warns press on 'defamatory material'
Politico ^ | July 4, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

Ratcheting up her offensive against the news media, Gov. Sarah Palin’s attorney threatened Saturday to sue mainstream news organizations if they publish “defamatory” stories relating to whether Palin is under federal investigation.

In an extraordinary four-page letter, Alaska-based attorney Thomas Van Flein warns of severe consequences should speculation that until now has largely been confined to blogs about whether Palin embezzled funds in the construction of a Wasilla, Alaska, sports arena find its way into print.

“This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law,” Van Flein warned, citing Alaska liberal blogger Shannyn Moore.

Much like Palin did in her Facebook statement Saturday, Van Flein savages the news media in his letter.

“Just as power abhors a vacuum, modern journalism apparently abhors any type of due diligence and fact checking before scurrilous allegations are repeated as fact,” the Anchorage attorney wrote.

HUFFO is going to keep digging, it seems. Now, they are trying to portray themselves as the victim.

They can’t say they haven’t been warned.

Huffington Post Blogger in Palin’s Cross Hairs

There is an old expression which says, “In a crisis, do nothing.” Wise words indeed, which means that soon-to-be-ex-governor Sarah Palin no doubt would never heed them. She’s sort of adopted another philosophy. It’s more like, “In a crisis, fly off the handle, be reactionary and threaten to sue someone for defamation in the hopes of intimidating the entire blogosphere and all national print and televised media into not talking about something.” I’m not an oddsmaker, but this strategy seems destined to become a crumpled up tin can on the refuse pile of epic failure.

There’s no doubt that the week has been a bad one for the governor. It started with an unflattering Vanity Fair article. This was followed by a CBS piece detailing several leaked emails in which she asked the McCain campaign to lie about Todd Palin’s 7-year membership in a secessionist party. McCain strategist Steve Schmidt responded to her request saying that Todd was a member, and it was a secessionist party and he wasn’t going to create an issue in the media if it didn’t exist already, nor would he lie for her.

A group spearheaded by local left-leaning bloggers says the governor still has to answer for the findings of an abuse-of-power investigation finished during the campaign, and are pressing lawmakers to take action next session.

The group, Alaskans for Truth, says the Legislature ought to censure Palin for breaking ethics rules and hold hearings on whether the governor and her husband told investigators the truth.

Legislators need the push, said Camille Conte, radio host for KUDO 1080 AM and chairwoman of the group.

“My sense is that there is not the political will to do the right thing because it’s not comfortable,” she said. “It’s sticky. It’s about holding the highest office in our state accountable.”

Other members include Democratic blogger Linda Kellen Biegel and shop owners Ronald and Jeanne Devon, according to the group’s registration.

Listened to KGO, San Fran last night with Christine Craft, who claims to be a lawyer.
She was slamming Palin like you can’t believe. Mentioned this ‘indictment’ and how ‘Palin took bribes to build her house’ .....Said Palin was unable to find France and Germany on a map and was dumber than a box of rocks, etc, etc. for 3 hours! Of course she did not mention Palin has been cleared of ALL ethics charges.
I tried to call in, couldn’t get the # to ring! I have emailed her today, hope you will too!

I can’t even find a rumor resembling Palin not identifying France & Germany on a map!

"The identity of the person who writes the liberal Democratic Mudflats blog has been secret since the blog began, protected by the Anchorage Daily News, among others. My own theory about the public process is you can say what you want, as long as you are willing to stand behind it using your real name. So I was interested to learn that the woman who writes the blog is Anchorage resident Jeanne Devon."

Craft also stated repeatedly that Palin had SAID she had never read the Constitution. I hope the Palins sue all these ‘media’ hacks.

Sarah Palin Truth Squad

The Miami Herald ran a report on September 30, 2008 by Chris Adams on the recent dramatic drop in Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s approval ratings with her home state constituents. As details emerge about the Troopergate ethics investigation and the many controversies and scandals surrounding Gov. Palin come to light as a result of her choice by Republican Senator John McCain as his vice presidential running mate, the 80%+ approval rating Palin once enjoyed continues to slide downhill among many Alaskan Democrats and Independent voters.

A group calling itself Alaskans for Truth organized the event (Jeanne Devon, Mudflats blogger "Alaska Muckraker" (AKM) husband is President of the org), which at times resembled a Barack Obama campaign rally.

Anchorage singer-songwriter Libby Roderick led the crowd in a chorus of “We’re gonna keep on moving forward” and “Stand tall for Obama,” while Obama volunteers signed up supporters under a nearby tent.

Nicole McCullough (Alaska Department of Natural Resources - consultant) came to the rally with her grand-niece and grand-nephew — twins born the day before Palin’s youngest son, Trig. McCullough wore a pitbull mask with large red lips, a reference to a Palin’s joke about hockey moms at the Republican National Convention.

A Hillary Clinton supporter earlier in the election, McCullough called Palin “a female Dan Quayle” and carried a sign that read: “Gov. Pitbull, call off your McCain dogs.

Someone might want to point out to them all of the stars who have sued and won over things like this. Once she is a private citizen she should be able to track down and sue each and everyone of them that she wants. I hope they have lots of things to take, Sarah and her family deserve it for all of the thigns that have been said about them!

McCain strategist Steve Schmidt responded to her request saying that Todd was a member, and it was a secessionist party and he wasn’t going to create an issue in the media if it didn't exist already, nor would he lie for her.

Refusing to lie shows that Schmidt had more integrity than you usually find among high-level political muckitimucks.

Yep.

Y'know, Liz, this Moore ain't Soros. She's probably getting some money from him, but she's not a billionaire.

Wonder what we can do, and what we can find out.

"I am not sure I understand your reply. Can you help me?

Sure! You said:
"I’ll keep saying it—I have never seen anyone that is more of a lightning road as Sarah Palin. The Left will not stop until they completely destroy her and her family, including kids. "

Instead of the self-promotion and/or the admission that you constantly repeat yourself, why not just say:

"I’ll keep saying it—I have never seen anyone that is more of a lightning road as Sarah Palin. The Left will not stop until they completely destroy her and her family, including kids. ".

This would have drawn a response, from me, that:

I disagree with your view. Almost all truly unique and successful people find themselves "lightning rods". They deal with it.

Not a criticism....just a thought!.....{:-)
