Thousands gather to protest taxes in Ventura County

Several thousand people gathered at anti-tax “Tea Party” protests across Ventura County today celebrating Independence Day with a shot across the bow of big government.

The demonstration at the Ventura County Government Center attracted a large crowd — organizers counted more than 3,500 with almost as many signing up to be part of an e-mail list, they said. Similar protests were held in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks, but with smaller crowds.

In Ventura, passing motorists honked as those gathered waved American flags and signs with messages like “We Are In Hot Water,” “One Nation Under God,” “You Can’t Fix Stupid, But You Can Vote Them Out.”

That was great - it was so good to see more and more people walking from the parking lots around the Government Center as the crowd grew.

From what I understand, we had a turnout of 1500 hundred on April 15th. This crowd exceeded expectations, drawing in 3500!!!

Were you there?

Wow! My old stompin' ground! I always figured most of them had grown up to be a bunch of LA wanna-bes or worse

Way to show 'em!

I was there and it was a great turn out. Biggest one I have yet to see. It was a peaceful demonstration with all sorts of signs and flags. The people are not going to let the folks in Washington wreck this nation. There were people from Cuba and the Philippines protesting, saying they say the same things happen in their lands when they were taken over by tyrants. The people are waking up. If I was a Democrat I would be worried about the next election.

Yes, I was there until about 11:30. There was already a larger crowd than I had ever seen gather at the Govt Center for any protest. It was refreshing after just going to the Main St fair, where the Dems, Sierra Club, Amnesty Int’l and Veterans For Peace had their booths (the Dems with a big standee of Zero).

Mrs. Lurkin and I were there and had a wonderful time. The weather was great, the crowd was upbeat and there was an unending string of supportive motorists honking their horns as they went by.

Very, very nice (but why were the T-shirts $23 and not just $20?)

We will all have to rendezvous at the next TEA Party for a hand shake, fist pump, high five or hug.

I talked with alot of patriots and was surprised that not one was aware of Freerepublic. com.

As far as the shirts...printing fee?? :)

I didn’t get a chance to meet many Freepers there at my “post”. I would have loved to though. I was there and enjoyed the positive response because I’m use to protesting lonely dangerous Day Laborer centers locally.
I hope that everyone there was energized to participate in upcoming community issues and elections. We needed more Freepers there to pass the word around. Up the rebels! Vote the bad encumbants out.

There were great signs held by patriots, young and old at that Thousand Oaks tea party. One of the best was
“Stop mortgaging my grandpuppies’ future” that was on the back of a beautiful golden/irish retriever mix. The best one was the wonderful young man who used his affection for Star Wars to full advantage. I don’t remember the text so much as the entire presentation. He had a picture of the Death Star labeled “Debt Star”. Then off to the side an arrow pointed to a circle that contained a figure of Darth Vader with the caption “Obama”. The presentation was completed with the sign mounted on a lightsaber!
