It was meant to be a show case for healthy living, with the first lady, Michelle Obama, personally putting hand to pitch fork in a crowd of school children to dig up the first White House vegetable garden in more than 50 years.

Instead, an embarrassed White House admitted today that the plot - whose lettuce, herbs and other produce have been consumed by the first family, visiting dignitaries, local school children and a women's homeless shelter - had tested positive for elevated levels of lead.

The White House would not say whether the Obamas or the children who had helped tend the garden would be tested for lead exposure.

Wow, her upper body and her lower body just do not match at all!

Small on top, with the thighs and rear of a linebacker!

LOL! I always wondered about that ‘lead paint causes developmental problems’ idea. When I was growing up, most baby cribs were painted, and that paint included lead. I don’t know of many babies who DIDN’T chew on their cribs from the time they were able to pull themselves up to their feet. Given that, shouldn’t there be tens of MILLIONS of adults, born from the 1920’s up through the 1970’s, with developmental problems as a result?

“We don’t make fun of other posters in this forum, ya hear?”

I’ve been mostly a lurker since ‘97, almost never posted and now I know why.

Guess you don’t remember eschoir?

Do you have any comprehension how stupid thinking lead poisoning is not a serious blood disease is?

Here’s a link to a simpleton’s encyclopedia, aka Wikipedia:

Calling someone a damn fool is nothing more than definition of character.

Folks, please look at the photos. We are talking about raised beds in this garden that are full of high carbon, nitrogen rich, “black gold”, hummus soil.

Little of the White House's existing soil was used as a growing medium.

This stuff was trucked in I'm sure. Many, many cubic feet were needed to fill this 1,100 sq foot garden.

WHO supplied the soil? OR: WHAT was it amended with?
Its’ possible that the garden is not as ORGANIC as advertised.

Lead mostly likely from decades of leaded gas exhaust on Penn. Ave.

Born and raised in DC. Must agree. The back lawn is constantly surrounded by dense traffic on all sides, and tour buses, trucks, you name it; plus, the presidential helicopter lands right on the back lawn. Here is a photo of President Bush alighting behind the White House:

Lead is a naturally occuring element and is everywhere. The amount found in this soil is low by any standard. The purpose of the article is what? Scare everyone, embarrassment, or do you just follow the money.

Yep -- just setting us up for one more expensive environmentally mandated drain on the treasury. You can hear all his cute folksy anecdotes now, after all these pix of her with children, and then to find out there was * gasp * lead in the soil -- oh, the humanity!

More power to ya, the stuff kills everyone else.

There is a great variation in individuals. My grandfather started smoking unfiltered Camels when he was 7 years old and lived to be 81. Died from heart trouble, not cancer.

How else do you account for Obama getting elected? The problem finally hit critical mass...

“My grandfather started smoking unfiltered Camels when he was 7 years old”

I smoke Pall Malls unfiltered and didn’t start until I was 11, can’t stand cigarettes with tampax on the end, and am only 72.

“Anyone that looks up anything on Wikipedia I clasify as a n idiot!”

Excuse me, I said I posted it from a simpleton link for YOUR benefit.

“Here’s a link to a simpleton’s encyclopedia, aka Wikipedia:

Calling someone a damn fool is nothing more than definition of character.”

It bears repeating, you didn’t comprehend it the first time.”

If you can’t understand Wikipedia do I have to post in crayon?
