It was meant to be a show case for healthy living, with the first lady, Michelle Obama, personally putting hand to pitch fork in a crowd of school children to dig up the first White House vegetable garden in more than 50 years.
Instead, an embarrassed White House admitted today that the plot - whose lettuce, herbs and other produce have been consumed by the first family, visiting dignitaries, local school children and a women's homeless shelter - had tested positive for elevated levels of lead.
The White House would not say whether the Obamas or the children who had helped tend the garden would be tested for lead exposure.
“Lead residue was probably left there after British forces burned the White House in the War of 1812.”
That’s crazy talk... everybody knows the grounds of the Whitehouse were impregnated with poisons and hazardous materials by George W.!
Sometimes you folks surprise me with your naivity.
If that’s the case, then George W should come back and clean up the mess! It’s the responsible thing to do!

Radishes grow very rapidly. They are ready to be harvested
in 3 to 4 weeks. Thus they need loose, nutrient rich soil
that they can start feeding on immediately.
Radishes also grow well in flower boxes. As long as the box
is at least 6 inches deep; just give it a rich soil mix and
keep the soil moist as pots dry out faster than ground soil.
