The Huffington Post issued an apology Friday evening for an article about the resignation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin posted at their website entitled, Palin Will Run In '12 On More Retardation Platform, written by HuffPo writer Erik Sean Nelson.
The Daily Dose published an e-mail apology from Mario Ruiz of HuffPo:
Due to an editorial lapse, Erik Sean Nelsons post on Sarah Palin bypassed the normal vetting process and appeared on HuffPost but was never featured anywhere on the site. Even though satiric works are generally given greater latitude, Nelsons post falls outside of HuffPosts editorial guidelines. As such, if not for the error, it would not have been approved for publication, and was removed from the site as soon as our editors became aware of it. We sincerely regret the error and any offense it might have caused.
Ruiz's statement the article was pulled by the editors contradicts claims by the author of the piece that he pulled the article within minutes of posting it:
Within 10 minutes of the post, I received 2 emails from special needs families, saw that it was hurtful and I pulled the post immediately. I apologize for offending you.
Since you wanted to know what I was going for, it was that Palin said that she was leaving the governorship because of jokes. What kind of President would she make if she couldnt handle some bad jokes? I used her words to create a farcical situation where offensive jokes were meant to be ironic. I saw immediately that it was wrong and apologized on the site.
Tommy Christopher, the author of the Daily Dose claims his intervention on Twitter alerted HuffPo to the offensive article:
Also important is that, within 10 minutes of tweeting HuffPo editor Jason Linkins, the piece was pulled (although it took longer for it to completely disappear). On a holiday weekend, no less, thats an amazing turnaround.
Of course, the left only cared about the article because Free Republic had brought public awareness to the nasty piece of work minutes after the article was published.
From Free Republic the outrage went viral leading to HuffPo pulling the article to ward off a PR disaster. Of course, there was no direct apology to the Palin family nor was the author fired, so HuffPo's apology appears to be a PR move and not sincere.
Arguing for standards when you are talking about a vehicle like the Huffington Post is futility. It’s like G. Gordon Liddy sez - the key is in not caring.
Liberals find their fantasies everywhere they can, even in the U.S. Constitution.
The jerks w/ 3-names strikes again:
John Wayne Gacy
John Wilkes Booth
Lee Harvey Oswald
Mark David Chapman
Boutros Boutros Ghali
Sirhan Sirhan Sirhan (hey! he's a comedian. It's funny, right? Aren't we all laughing? hahahahahaha. not.)
Apology NOT accepted.
As bad as Letterman’s disgusting remarks and they should get the same public outrage.
Huffpo or the author of it pulling the post doesn’t change what they are . Huffpo by it’s very nature attracts the kind of jaundiced minds that gleefully write such garbage.
It is solid sentinels of decency such as you, Kristinn, that shine a light on their perverted behavior.
Bravo!
Thanks. That appears to be Nelson’s ‘statement’ that he’s sending back in response to e-mails about his article. A couple other Freepers have posted a similar response from Nelson.
Liberals find their fantasies everywhere they can, even in the U.S. Constitution.
Liberals don’t believe in the Constitution.
Sarah said why she is resigning, and it had nothing to do with jokes. Don’t ya love how libs make up reasons just to make themselves feel good.
I think the story that’s not being told is what the democrat party has become—the party of stalin tactics, of capone corruption and a loss of any sense of positive legislative accomplishment.
“the entire media establishment (is) using her love for her children against her”
That is the way evil works.
During the cold war, comsimps insisted that communism and free-market capitalism were just competing philosophies, two morally equivalent world views.
Of course, that wasn’t true then, and it isn’t now. The left is evil. There are philosophies and world views to be found to the center and right that are not evil. “Evil” and “not evil” are not morally equivalent.
In the same way, the demonrats and pubbies are not morally equivalent. The person who first referred to them as “the evil party” and “the stupid party” hit the nail on the head.
Stupidity may not be wonderful, but neither is it evil.
We are not faced with a legitimate philosophy that may reasonably be endorsed by decent, intelligent people. With the exception of completely uninformed default democrats, they are the party of evil. Their sacraments are sodomy and baby killing, and Satan is doing some of his best work through them.
Only when enough Americans see the extent of their evil will it be possible to oppose and defeat them.
He is the definition of a lying sack of crap.
Still say we need to get the word to talking heads so they can embarrass them more.
Three words: BILL O’REILLY, MONDAY.
He looks like a less intelligent version of Perez Hilton
In our liberal dominated broadcast news world, aint gonnaa happen.
Geez, I didn’t think the HuffPo had editorial guidelines or for that matter understand what that nit-picky stuff is all about.
Ping~
Eric just doesn’t get it. The word “retarded” is not the proper word anymore unless one is discussing Eric, who by the picture posted on this thread appears to be breaking loose with a beer burp. Eric needs some instruction that the word “challenged” is a better choice.
