7 things Sarah Palin must do now
Politico ^ | 06/17/2009 | Roger Simon

Posted on 07/03/2009 7:31:29 PM PDT by iowamark

Sarah Palin can be the Republican nominee in 2012. I am not saying she will be, but she can be...

1. DUMP ALASKA. She doesn’t need to run for reelection for governor in 2010 for name recognition or to get media attention. And being a governor these days is like having a target on your back...

Maybe you can see Russia from Alaska, but you can’t see Iowa and New Hampshire from Alaska. Alaska is too far away from where she needs to be. She can live, skimobile and hunt moose in Alaska, but she needs to spend a lot of travel time in the Lower 48 without having to run back to Juneau every week.

2. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE SMARTER THAN YOU ARE. That shouldn’t be hard, her opponents will say. OK, let them laugh. They laughed at George W. Bush when he ran for president in 2000 and at Arnold Schwarzenegger when he ran for governor of California in 2003. Both benefited from low expectations and smart staffs. ...

3. PICK A HANDFUL OF ISSUES AND STICK TO THEM. The increase in the size of government? The increase in the deficit? The increase in the role of Washington in people’s lives? All good issues for Republican primary voters. And all three are things Palin talks about already. And she shouldn’t worry if she gets attacked for being naive or simplistic. Ronald Reagan got pretty far with: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’”

4. STUDY UP.

5. DON’T BELIEVE YOU CAN’T DO IT.

6. DON’T GO CHANGING.

7. DON’T WORRY ABOUT FAILURE. Heck, there’s always 2016.

Posted a few weeks ago but worth a second look in light of today's announcement. Is she taking Simon's advice?

Sarah, repeat after me:

“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

Good line.

That would tempt many, but the sad arithmetic of spoilers reminds that it is better to get the GOP itself renewed from the ground up, remembering what it used to stand for. The cruel truth is that more Perots mean more Clintons and Obamas. The Rats have their party unity down to a wicked science.

Thats what came to my mind when I read Palin quit. She doesn’t want the backing of the GOP (that GOP part was hard to type without breaking out in laughter).

No - control the GOP. By necessity because of the American electoral college, American political parties are coalitions of smaller political groups. The GOP is one of the two national organizations that can win a Presidency. We want to win to save our nation from another four years of O. Third parties exist to throw the election into the House of Representatives.

Maybe she took his advice, but my question is, why quit now, she could have finished off her term, then quit. No one actually believed she would run for re-election, so why quit before her term is up, I think is the question. She said that her trip to Kosovo confirmed her belief in resigning, I wonder what happened on that trip

Sarah,
Yes, she needs to have a few sessions with Condi, Dick and Rove.

But basically she needs to just tell it like it is...She’s saying what most folks are thinking...

Get the book (seven figure advance) finished. Get it in writing.
Go on book tour
Go on talk shows
Speak for personal profit
Speak for candidates
Speak at special need groups
Speak at energy conferences
Speak out against spending
Speak out against congress
Speak out against Obama
Speak

She’ll pull from both parties and all across America!

Third party in the past has never really gone too far, true. there is trend lately where both parties have been losing members. These folks are now claiming to be indepentant.

"Form a third party and tell the rinos to kiss her butt."

And tell the country to kiss her butt too as she guarantees four more years of downward spiral.

SHe pulled the rug out from under the folks filing ethics charges against her...They were keeping her from accomplishing her future goals.

Sort of like a step-kid making a mess and keeping mom busy cleaning it up instead of allowing her the time to spend time with dad.

I wish outsiders would quit trying to tell people what to do.

Whoever Governor Palin listens to is who will help her make her decisions. Not “consensus” and not articles in papers or magazines.

I pray that she’ll run in 2012. Until we know for sure, I am still supporting her.
