POLITICO: Palin plans to stay visible
Politico ^ | 7/3/2009 | Mike Allen

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to remain extremely visible and will give serious consideration to running for president in 2012, but has made no decision, a close friend said after her startling announcement Friday that she will resign her office.

Friends say Palin plans to spend time writing her book, which is due this fall, then promote it heavily when it comes out in spring 2010.

Palin is by far the Republican Party's biggest draw for fund-raisers and conservative events, and the friends say she plans to spend a lot of time traveling in "the lower 48" states, as Alaskans call the continental U.S.

Those friends say she plans to give a series of paid speeches, and will also make free GOP appearances, raising money for the party and for issues. She also plans to help other candidates, collecting political IOUs for herself.

But she quit for the greater good of Alaska. Not for selfish reasons. Quiting for the good of Alaskans is not the same as quitting because she personally couldn’t take the heat. Normal everyday people can relate to and even admire her decision. The political elites will never get it.

Sarah reminds me so much of Reagan-! She is going to bypass the hostile leftist media and take her wonderfully candid and heartfelt message directly to the American people, and she is going to ‘wow” the vast majority of them-! This is going to be exciting to witness and support-!

If Palin makes the 2012 run... Loed willing America survives that long... I will open my wallet like it was a bottomless pit of money... Provided I have any money left after Obama destroys the economy.

Let me ask you something: Did she know, at the time she won election as Governor, that two years hence she would become the Vice Presidential Nominee on a national ticket?

Did she know that, as a result of the above, she would face an onslaught of legal abuse from enemies using the mechanism of frivolous complaints through our civil court system?

Did she know that, in 2009, she would be the most vocal and popular GOP figure on the national stage?

Is she granted any stay due to "extenuating circumstances" that apply only in her particular case? Or are going the Shylock route: "10 pounds of flesh, and not an ounce less!"

In politics, timimng is everything. It simply doesn’t look good resigning from a job to campaign for some other office 3 years away.

If she thinks she is going to start running for 2012 from no onwards then it is ridiculous, I dont think Palin is that stupid, it is clear that she has given up on a political career.

You are stretching it. I dont care what she chooses to do. I obviously dont share the same view as the many of the kool aid drinkers here that she is aiming for a national office.

Weather Sarah Palin runs in 2012 or not, it really doesn't matter. The mama bear has been awakened. You don't mess with Mama Bear.

“But she quit for the greater good of Alaska.”

Unlike Obama’s short senatorial career which mostly consisted of being on the campaign trail. The contrast between Palin and Obama couldn’t be greater.

She said the Wounded troops she just visited helped her make up her mind. mmmmmm would like to have been a fly on the wall.

I would guess that two things happened. 1) She saw the wounds that the soldiers received in service to their country, swapped stories about the wounds that she and her family have received so far, and then listened to them telling her that they have not given up, and that she shouldn't either, and 2) Probably received some advice from the special ops guys, something to the effect of: Don't just stand there for the next 18 months like a dumb moose waiting to get shot at.

I’d love to have Sarah as President, but if does indeed run in 2012, she’s going to be tagged with a “quitter” label which will be hard to shake. I wish she’d gone longer as AK governor, at least for one more year. Absolutely, I’ll support her whatever endeavor she chooses, but I don’t think her actions yesterday helped her if she has aspiration for the White House. I’m crossing my fingers she carefully weighed the options and knows what she’s doing.

At first she will. But as we get past this first phase of her resignation we need to help her by pointing out that ANYONE who loses half a million dollars while trying to do ANY job has a right to quit that job.

Staying in a job just for appearances and losing hundreds of thousands more dollars to do it is insane. SHe can certainly be criticized for that, too. She is justified IMO just on the financial aspect of it. She does not owe the people of Alaska another year and a half at the cost of perhaps $750,000 of personal debt.

Not really. She speaks from the heart. He speaks from a teleprompter. And he endorses partial birth abortion. That’s evil. V’s wife.

Sarah Palin is running for president.

I'm going with my initial gut, which has always said she is running in 2012.

She needs to be in the continental United States now if she wants to build up her credentials for 2012. She needs to speak at political events, support conservative candidates for 2010, learn more about the issues, learn to communicate her message effectively, learn the Washington DC ropes, build a solid campaign foundation and fundraising machine, and most importantly, build public support system that can help get her message out.

She cannot do that stuck in Alaska as governor. No one knows what is happening up there. Alaska is a great state, but the location is still far away to run for higher public office such as president. It is difficult to be known down here as opposed to up in Alaska (or Hawaii as well). Nor can she run effectively constantly fighting these frivolous ethics complaints, which she has won all 15. And she knows the media will do what they can to destroy her. And even the moderate wing of the GOP want her out of the running for 2012.

Of all the options available, this was the most reasonable and effective for her long-term prospects. If she serves out her term, she loses a year and a half trying to campaign in the continental US. If she runs for re-election, she loses even more time.

This was the best move she could make. A bold move. She even admitted she is unconventional.

And why not be unconventional? Political success is replete with the unconventional ending up as the big winners. Margaret Thatcher was labeled unconventional. She went against the mold. She shocked the world and won. LBJ in Texas was called a loser, had no chance, had no money or political support; so he knocked on doors of the common person and did the unconventional--and he won over a powerful incumbent. My point is that the elite Washington establishment, moderate GOPers, pseudo-conservatives, and bloggers that are brushing Sarah Palin off as RIP in 2012 are in for a rude awakening. Far from being politically dead with her announcement, she just went up through the stratosphere with common Americans. We understand her! We feel her! She is one of us! The elites and Palin detractors do not get her popularity and it shows in their irrational coverage and commentary.

Sarah Pain draws in massive crowds. She creates enthusiasim. Can communicate with the common person like no other political figure today. She drives the elites insane. She has unmatched authenticity. She's got the "it" factor is spades. The Left fears her. The media fears her. Obama FEARS her.

And she knows all of this.

She quoted Douglass McArthur by saying, "We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction." This is no mere happenstance quote. McArthur is also known more famously for saying, "I shall return." That is the real veiled message she is sending to the world and supporters.

She is running for president. And I couldn't be happier!
