TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduras' Supreme Court rebuffed a personal appeal from the Americas' top international diplomat Friday, refusing to restore ousted President Manuel Zelaya before a Saturday deadline. Jose Miguel Insulza, who heads the Organization of American States, flew to Honduras in an attempt to persuade the forces that ousted Zelaya to take him back in the face of overwhelming international condemnation and economic sanctions.

He met for two hours with Jorge Rivera, president of the Supreme Court that authorized the military to seize Zelaya on Sunday and fly him into exile.

"Insulza asked Honduras to reinstate Zelaya, but the president of the court categorically answered that there is an arrest warrant for him," said court spokesman Danilo Izaguirre. "Now the OAS has to decide what it will do."

Insulza made no comments as he emerged from the meeting. He has said Honduras will be suspended from the organization, a move that could lead to further sanctions against one of the Americas' poorest countries, unless Zelaya is restored...he said he would not see Roberto Micheletti, whom Congress named president after Zelaya's ouster, in order to avoid legitimizing the government.

Micheletti's foreign minister, Enrique Ortez, said that Insulza "can negotiate all he wants, except for Zelaya's situation."

"That is not negotiable because he cannot return to Honduras, and if he does he will be arrested and tried," Ortez said...

Oh come on...maybe the new leadership of Honduras should convert to Islam — then Obama will go bow to them and then give them a big hug.

Buy their coffee, bananas, cigars, and clothing. Consider Honduras as a vacation destination. Support them any way you can, ‘cause these folks did what was right according to their law, and are standing firm.

LOL, I’m sure the leadership of Honduras will take that under consideration. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if they did it, just to watch his reaction.

Obama has threatened to suspend military “cooperation” with Honduras.

Does this leave them open to the attack by Venezuela threatened by Chavez?

That’s our Bam, striking a blow for whirled peas.

Go Honduras!

This tiny little nation may actually decide the fate of us all. If they can make Obama back down, we in the US might have a chance. If they lose, he will be empowered and we’re going to have to make some pretty bleak choices in the future.

I’ve never been there but they are supposed to have some nice beaches. They need our support, not our president’s scorn. There are times when I really miss George Bush.

I’m tempted to say the world’s going mad, but it’s been that way for a while now. We’re just seeing a rare, public display of it on the world stage.

If they’re threatened with invasion, and the leader of the country threatening such tries to show up to force them to take back his little puppet, I wouldn’t blame the Hondurans if they shot down the plane, myself.

Now, what would come after such an action is another matter. But, I wouldn’t blame them.

Beaches, the remote La Mosquitia tropical rainforest, ruins, lots of Spanish colonial history, ancient Mayan history, the cathederals, tapirs, wild parrots, Tegucigalpa and the other old cities, some wonderful cuisine - and a strong reputation for warmth and hospitality. Plus, an intelligent (though poor) population, educated in critical thinking, and a strong Christian culture. I’d love to spend a week or two there!

Between economic disaster, Saracuda’s announcement, and Honduras sticking it to Zero, this is shaping into a very interesting 4th.

CHAVEZ has threatened that he will also be on the plane with the ousted president.

If true, that would be wonderful news. This situation could then be ended with no innocent lives lost.
