Below is a list of serial killers who were homosexuals. This list is intended for reference purposes only and does not imply a causal relationship between homosexuality and serial killing.
Although incidents of serial killing are widely reported in the media because of the heinous and unusual nature of these crimes, there are actually very few serial killers relative to the general population. Research into this phenomenon is ongoing, and a small industry has sprung up around the practice of "profiling" serial killers in order to assist in their apprehension. But, law enforcement officials agree that each serial killer is unique. Society does not currently have sufficient knowledge to predict serial killing before it occurs and thus prevent it from happening.
Serial killers and their victims include people from all races, cultures, nationalities, economic background, educational levels, genders, and sexual orientations. Because serial killers are so rare, it is impossible to use any demographic indicator as a predictor. There are no "rules" and all apparent trends have been broken. But some general observations can be made.
Serial killers are nearly always men (93%). Furthermore, of the relatively few female serial killers, one third of them worked in partnership with males.

I think what's important to note here is that there is not a simple causative relationship between homosexual identification and serial killing. People who are highly motivated to be socially deviant in a variety of ways cluster at one low end of a U-curve and those who are highly motivated to be socially excellent cluster at the other end, with the large mass of regular folks in between. One man's escalating career as a rapist is another person's med school and gynecology fellowship, if you will, depending on the moral orientation and life circumstances.
The ones who cluster at the "sex-drugs-violence" end may have any number of motivations to be there and do any number of behaviors to satiate the inner drive to deviate from the norm. I often challenge the assumption that homophobia is what "causes" teens to commit suicide. It may be that suicidal youth are more likely to experiment with homosexuality as a way to drug themselves with their body's own adrenaliine -- they may unconsciously solicit the social disapproval to get their brain to make its "fix."

I have heard of some studies that said the number was less than 1%. Whatever the number is it is less tan most want us to believe it is.

I recently watched the movie “freeway killer” and found it odd that the movie downplays to the point of nonexistence the whole homosexual connection, does not go into the rapes, and leads one to belief he just happened to kill males only for no reason.
I don't think it's our criminal justice system that's the problem. The state draws lots of folks who want to get lost in our anonymity... We seem to get more than our fair share of "the crazies", evil ones, and fun odd balls. If you're faint of heart - this isn't the place to live.
Why are they all white? Are there no gay black serial killers?
