Krauthammer On Palin: Platitudes And Cliches Not Enough
Politico ^ | 7/2/09 | Jonathan Martin

Posted on 07/02/2009 12:48:52 PM PDT by steve-b

A remarkably candid assessment from one of the most respected opinion leaders on the right.

Said Charles Krauthammer last night on Fox News:

Now, as to Palin, I agree entirely with what Mara said. She is—she has star power without any doubt. She has an extremely devoted following. But she is not a serious candidate for the presidency.

She had to go home and study and spend a lot of time on issues in which she was not adept last year, and she hasn't. She has to stop speaking in clichés and platitudes. It won't work.

It could work for eight weeks if you're the number two candidate, as she was last year. But even so, she got singed a lot in that campaign. You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you're running for the presidency.

Charles is WRONG on this one:

You can get away with being an idiot, if you are Obama or some other Democrat, since the MSM will cover for you!

As far as Sarah goes, she did much better in the interviews than what we were shown. They edited her invterviews to make her look not as smart as she is.

I have to agree with Krauthammer. I like Palin alot, I really do. However, I’m not sure she can make it through a long primary season without making enough misstatments to turn off voters. I’d love for her to prove me wrong.

Hey, Chas, can you spell hope and change?

Platitudes and cliches are just fine though if you are a black lefty and the MSM wants to bed you.

She could still take Krauthammer’s advice, but time is running short (presuming she intends to run for reelection in 2010).

I found this curious last night. For a couple of reasons. First, Palin has just returned from a tour of the ME and parts of eastern Europe, visiting Alaska National Guard troops that have been deployed to the regions. Without any fanfare.

Krauthammer didn’t seem aware of this.

Second...the insistence Palin 1)Hasn’t had anyone up to Alaska to discuss various policies she’s been deemed ‘lacking in’.And ‘they’ know this...how?

Third...we’re six months into a new four year administration. If Govenor Palin decides to run for the GOP nomination, it won’t be til after the 2010 midterms, 16 months away. I’ll note the obvious, in 16 months every ‘dynamic’ on every ‘issue’ can, and most likely will CHANGE, one way or the other.

She’s doing just fine in my view. Its her detractors that seem out of their depth right now, or in the case of Krauthammer, uninformed as to her activities.

Mr. Krauthammer, with all due respect, Mr. Obama was not a serious candidate for the Presidency. talk about the lack of ‘gravitas’. Palin is qualified by birth, is a Capitalist, and has Executive experience. Obama is none of these things.

I beg to differ, Charles. The current occupant of the WH is constructive proof that it CAN work.

However, I don’t think Sarah Palin speaks in “cliches and platitudes” anyway. I think that perception is just an artifact of what the press chooses to fixate on and report.

Obama did it, and he knows far less than Palin on just about every subject under the sun, except community organizing.

Not to worry. Palin is a real quick study. If she wants the job, she’ll learn whatever it is that CK thinks she doesn’t know now.

Mr. Krauthammer, what you are saying about Sarah is even more congruent with Obama.

* At least Sarah went home and studied.

* At least Sarah can deliver her “platitudes” without the help of a teleprompter.

* At least Sarah can speak without every other utterance being an unintelligible “ah, um, er”.

* At least Sarah is a REAL person with a REAL life who had a REAL job, ran a REAL business, has had REAL executive experience, and is a REAL American!

If I didn’t have so much respect for you, Mr. Krauthammer, I’d tell you to stick it.

Its too early for Krauthammer to be saying this. She obviously knows Alaska issues well enough, and the rest is just politico bs
