So how much does White House job pay?

The top Chicagoans in the Obama White House also earn the top White House staff salaries -- capped at $172,200, according to a list released Wednesday.

The $172,200 earners from Chicago: senior adviser David Axelrod, chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and Susan Sher, chief of staff to the first lady. » Click to enlarge image Lynn Sweet

Tina Tchen, the director of the office of public engagement, makes $153,500; Desiree Rogers, the social secretary, earns $113,000.

Nate Tamarin -- with the Obama political operation when he was a senator -- draws a $95,000 paycheck as the associate director of the White House political affairs office. Joe Reinstein, a deputy social secretary, makes $65,000.

President Obama makes $400,000.

The White House sent Congress a list of 487 "White House Office" staffers, under a requirement in place since 1995. The White House met the July 1 deadline by posting the names, titles and salaries of 487 staffers at whitehouse .gov, but did not draw attention to it by announcing it via a press release.

"We make news on our blog all the time," said spokesman Josh Earnest.

The White House added names not mandated by Congress, but did not include the vice president's office or the Office of Management and Budget.

Earnest said, "We're looking at ways we can disclose" the salary information of more White House staffers.

Salary plus expenses.

And, most importantly, all the sex - any kind - you want.

You may make more $ than they do, but you forgot the unlimited expenses, the free cars, free private planes, free everything, and all the money you can steal.

That is really not a lot of money for what they do. It is not a fun job at all. It is very long hours. I am surprised that these folks are so selfless to do this grueling work. I mean they could be making millions as CEOs at least most of them.

How much for the unelected, responsible to no one but Bambi "CZARS"? The Congress has the authority to find out about these people that have effectively taken over the responsibilities of the House and Senate. They are a shadow government in every respect and are very very dangerous .

They could extort or steal more than that back in Chicago...

C'mon, now! How many of them have ever had a REAL job?

You forgot they get all the money you can steal FOR LIFE! Most of them have honed that skill long before getting to the WH so this wll be limitless.

I would hardly call working at the White House not a real job. They work more hours than most people and are salaried workers. I am only talking about job positions here not who are actually working them. I guess when Sarah is President in 2012 you will be saying the same thing.

You've got to be kidding. They love it. It is the power they've dreamed of...getting to "remake" society.

These Chicago commies could NEVER be CEO's. They don't know anything about real business nor do they have the character to run a real company in the real world.

Actually when they did that look at the White House, there were kids from all over the United States. I say kids but they were in their 20’s and 30’s. I still think it is a tough job.

A "tough job" that brings them fame and fortune.

They love it. To our peril.

I define a "real" job as one that provides benefit to others by providing wanted or needed goods or services. Take energy, for instance. The power companies, through their employees provide it and are paid for it. But the drones at the department of energy do not create one watt of electricity, yet make it more costly for all of us.

Going department by department, we could cut half the federal staff, and only those who leech off the government would miss them. I'm not saying that they don't actually work (although there are probably lots of them marking time until retirement), I'm saying that the work they do would not be missed.

We will have to wait until 1/20/2013 for Sarah. Will she have the guts to swing the axe on government? A lot of folks seem to think so; that is why they are so desperate to diminish her. Feeding at the public trough becomes habit forming!
