WASHINGTON – Democrats on a key Senate Committee outlined a revised and far less costly health care plan Wednesday night that includes a government-run insurance option and an annual fee on employers who do not offer coverage to their workers.

The plan carries a 10-year price tag of slightly over $600 billion, and would lead toward an estimated 97 percent of all Americans having coverage, according to the Congressional Budget Office, Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and Chris Dodd said in a letter to other members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. The AP obtained a copy.

Where I come from we call those "additional taxes".

Not sure how they can know it would be “less costly” than the current proposal, given that no one will confess to a total dollar amount for that one.

Any gov’t plan should include everyone in congress and all federal employees. If it's good enough for us, it's good enough for them

They just pull the numbers out of their butt. No one ever demands the proof of any of their claims

What is the estimate in business bankruptcies and unemployment as a result?

Congress must tell us how many people they are going to put on the streets with this.

Kind of like that original Social Security tax that was only going to apply to the first $15,000 of earnings and only on the top 10% of earners......

This is where all Americans still living in this country need to take a stand and say, “Oh no you don’t!”

where is the GOP alternative to this?

many of us who work as contractors can’t afford coverage on
our own, and are too old for most employers to want to hire
as FTE’s, and no the agencies don’t offer coverage and if I ask for 400 more a month they are off to the next candidate.

are we supposed to just go off and die somewhere? I can
accept paying something for my care, but the costs are
staggering for most meaningful medical procedures.

The GOP has been silent on this. We’ve been ravaged by having our homes lose half their value, by age discrimination that forces many of the best works to an uncertain future as contractors, by medical costs that make
a trip to the ER financially ruinous...

Where are you GOP?

There is only one thing that is a proven historical fact in Washington, which is, if the Democrats are proposing anything; it's for certain that the cost is always 50 time more than they're telling you, and the outcome per dollar spent will be negligible at best.

They are without a doubt, the kings of waste and inefficiency.

“There is only one thing that is a proven historical fact in Washington”

And don’t forget the certainty that the Asspress will lap up and package whatever sewage Obama and his minions spit out.
