WASHINGTON, July 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. government voiced concern on Wednesday over actions taken by Niger's President Mamadou Tandja to extend his rule in the West African country.
"These decisions undermine Niger's efforts over the last ten years to advance good governance and the rule of law," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
Tandja responded to the rejection by Niger's highest court of his plan to seek at least another three years in power by sacking the judges and naming a new Cabinet.
....U.S. concern about the situation in Niger comes at a time when Washington is putting pressure on Honduras to restore ousted President Manuel Zelaya to office.
Zelaya, who took office in 2006 and had been due to leave power in 2010, was forced out over his push to extend presidential mandates beyond a single term.

They've already started. But you're right, they'll step it up and make no bones about it sometime in the future.
If the Chinese start messing with African Muslim countries, they had better watch out for terrorist attacks against China. They can get in via China's western borders.
Apparently being Secretary of State has less pomp and takes a bit more “elbow” grease than Hillary bargained for.
Darn Uighers.
bump
White House Nigers actions worrisome.
Lots of racists out there it seems.
We are so screwed.
It's ok if you are going to stay in power and disregard your countries rule of law as long as you have thrown or attempt to throw a sham of an election.
This is flip flopping, hypocritical foreign policy at its best.
ITS SO GOD D#$# STUPID. I'm speechless for words.

I hear Prince Manfred, 332nd in line the throne of Liechtenstein, uses Brasso on his royal ring. Watch for “statement of concern” by 0bama in 5..4..3..2..
You are right, and I am just being sarcastic of liberals such as Hillary. Of course that has never stopped liberals & socialist-fascist-marxists from piling at any perceived weakness or imperfection from any conservatives. Sarah Palin is a perfect example of how she is a woman of grace & dignity & kindness & accomplishment, and yet the liberal socialist-fascist demoRATs & media attacked her with a vengence while totally ignoring the gaffes & major flaws of “Stand up Chuck” Biden and teleprompter totalitarian thug 0booooooooombshiite. For this reason I have no hesitation for mocking liberal demoRATs such as Hillary and any other demoRATs.

The U.S. government should stop backing the dictator wannabe, Zelaya.

Kenyan in White House undermining rule of law.

Niger President Mamadou Tandja
Obama's policy of 'selective meddling' in action again.
Scratched off of Obama's selective meddling list are: Iran, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Vietnam, Red China, Russia, .......& on & on
The big question is...when will there be trouble? When does the final straw arrive? IS there a final straw?
The biggest offender besides ostammer himself is the media. The media will keep what’s going on tamped down for a long time, at least until ostammer has his brown shirts in place and/or the Posse Comitatus Act (which is a rather precarious law in terms of its ongoing viability) has been rendered non-operational by congress and the DoD.
No offense meant, but you are naive.
You assume ostammer wants what’s best for America.
Somebody tell that Reuters editor you can’t call a black man that, even if you misspell it.
A Foolish Consistency is the Hobgoblin of Little Minds, don'cha know? The One knows The Way. These are not the droids you're looking for....
Tandja responded to the rejection by Niger's highest court of his plan to seek at least another three years in power by sacking the judges and naming a new Cabinet.By contrast, in Honduras, a would-be dictator was lawfully removed by that country's supreme court, and its order was carried out by the military -- and the Obamanation objected. After the lawful Kenyan elections, Obama campaigned for his bloodthirsty Moslem murderer of a cousin.
“What a confusing foreign policy agenda there is in Washington nowadays? Does it change daily?”
If nothing else it succeeds in deflecting some attention from a stupid reaction to the situation in Honduras.
