I have heard that the Obama administration may shut down the program? Any one else hearing news?
This is very sad if it happens, I grew up in the CAP while my friends chose scouts.
Where did you hear it?
Can’t find any news on the topic.
The Shreveport Senior Squadron is maxed out with mission requests.

When I was a kid, we lived across the road for a General aviation airport where the CAP was based. I ALWAYS wanted to be part of the group. They were so cool, and was always eager to show us kids the airplanes.
My son was in the CAP in Germany and Illinois. This would be a sad occurrence indeed. It doesn’t cost the Air Force a large amount to operate it, so this doesn’t even make sense.

...unless Obama has OTHER reasons than costs for shutting it down.
I was CAP before I was sent to nam.
The bum wants to exact a huge fee on general aviation to raise billions of dollars that will be too costly for most people including CAP cadets.
GWalarmism? CO2 something or other?
Discouraging aviation training?
Cadets only comprise about 1/3rd of the program. CAP does more than 90% of inland searches for the AF. Cheaper using a Cessna to locate downed air planes.
CAP also conducts almost all of the AF drug awareness programs for AF families and communities using funding provided by the AF Surgeon General Office.
I would not doubt Obama has a problem with kids running around in military uniforms though.
My point is Obummer is going to price the ownership of a Cessna out of the reach of most Americans, let alone try to fly one.
Not if the uniforms are brown and have his campaign symbol on their sleeves....
My son is a Webelo and I’m not sure cut out for BSA. It just hasn’t appealed to him.
He’s very excited about aviation and I had thought about looking into CAP.
AS for what I know of it, I am very impressed by what I hear about the young men who come out of the program.
They will make excellent leaders. So, it is no wonder Obama would want to shut it down.
I’m certain he would do the same for BSA if he could.
Joe,
Try to encourage your son to hang in there with cub scouts. The webelo years are the best part and from there, Boy Scouts are a blast.
Then again, as long as he is involved in something positive, it is a good thing.
Thanks.
He is second year Webelo. I have encouraged him. He needs to take the initiative.
All in all, its been really good.
It will be renamed the Civil Acorn Patrol.
