A new report, F as in Fat, says Texas ranks 14th in the nation in how fat its adults are.
The ranking means 27.9 percent of Texas adults are overweight or obese, according to the Trust for Americas Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, two non profits dedicated to health issues. In the same report, the state had the 20th highest rate of overweight youths, ages 10 to 17, at 32.2 percent.
In no state did adults lose weight, the report says. Texas ranking didnt budge from last year. (The new data are based on combined rates for 2006, 2007 and 2008, according to the executive summary.)
And while Baby Boomers may work out more than their parents, they are fatter, the report says, which does not bode well for future Medicare costs.
In 1991, no state had an obesity rate above 20 percent, a summary of the report says. In 1980, the national average for adult obesity was 15 percent.
For the fifth consecutive year, Mississippi topped the list as the fattest state, with a third of its adults overweight or obese. Mississippi also has the highest rate of obese and overweight children 44.4 percent.
Three other states have adult obesity rates above 30 percent: Alabama, West Virginia and Tennessee. Eight of the 10 states with the worst adult obesity rates are in the South, the report says.
Colorado again has the lowest adult obesity rate at 18.9 percent.
One spot of cheer: Childhood obesity rates may have peaked. The report says researchers have not seen statistically significant increases for the first time in several years.

I may not like looking at fat people, but I would gladly lay down my life to protect their right to be fat.
What next? Govt fat tax?
NO ONE’s darn business who is fat and who is not.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics say Aussies are getting fatter, but still smoking and drinking the same amount as last year. (Reuters)
What a bunch of sloths .....lol.
No it’s not anyone’s business....but then, are you proud Americans are known as fat lazy rich slobs? Isn’t gluttony a sin?
What’s hard to understand is the anger that this report will no doubt inspire. I’ve yet to understand the phenomenon, but some folks get downright angry if you point out that the nation is porking out, or that it is a problem.
We have the most overweight poverty stricken people in world history.
Most eat better than I could afford.
I’m phat.
Unless I’m much mistaken, this paper has it wrong. The article indicates that about 30% of adults are either overweight or obese. According to other reports, about 30% of adults are overweight and ANOTHER 30% are obese. Just judging by the naked eye, I’m find the latter more believable.
I see a lot of fat-@$$es who have handicapped placards for no visible reason other than they are rubenesque.
It disgusts me that we, as a society, reward them with preferred parking when in fact they oughta be made to park FAR, FAR away from the front door of a business.
I confess to cluelessness as to what the lasses see that's appealing in the lads. As a lad, I find a lass with a bit of the curve to be achingly attractive. Then, that they are sticking around longer is better yet.
If the problem is that guvmint has to care for all the fat men and women, I can offer a solution that has zip to do with telling a lass of the curve how to live. I sort of like the thought of a curvaceous lass getting as curvy as I like while having the taxpayers pay for none of it i.e. curvaceousnemss and a longer live span.
If these clowns would stop worrying about who pays for things, perhaps they could stop telling people how to live.
What do you say?
How fat are we?
All together now: "HOW FAT ARE WE?!"
We're so fat that when we sit around the house, we sit around the house.
We're so fat that we each have our own zip code.
We've got more Chins than a phone directory in Chinatown.
I gotta tell ya.....we're fat. Fat and Ugly. We're so ugly that our mothers used to feed us with a slingshot. So ugly that....
I like fat people. They are a threat to Obama’s health care plan.
