India will reject greenhouse gas emission targets

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will not sign up to targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions but will instead focus on fighting poverty and boosting economic growth, the environment minister said Tuesday.

India is one of the world's biggest emitters alongside China, the U.S. and Russia, and the second most populous nation. But India's per capita emissions lag far behind rich countries and it feels the developed world should take the lead on tackling climate change.

"India cannot and will not take emission reduction targets because poverty eradication and social and economic development are first and over-riding priorities," a statement on behalf of Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said.

A legally binding emission reduction target endangers India's energy conservation, food security and transport, he said.

India has laid out its stance ahead of the negotiation of a climate treaty in Copenhagen in December that will replace the expiring Kyoto pact.

Ramesh said India will not allow its per capita greenhouse emissions to exceed that of developed countries, and said this amounted to a voluntary cap.

Ramesh also said India would not accept a provision in a U.S. Congress bill which would impose trade penalties on countries who fail to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Imagine that.

India gives the bum’s rush to the global warmists.

I predict that the nations who abstain from cap-and-trad will prosper, while those that embrace it will suffer.

And the climate will do whatever it’s going to do, with utter indifference to whatever mankind does.

I predict that it will eventually be revealed that the influence of mankind’s activities on climate is sixth order at best.

And China will make nice sounds while doing what it wants to which includes many new coal fired plants. The world must be laughing at the dementia of the US.

Meanwhile, the US will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions as it focuses on boosting poverty and fighting economic growth.

A local truck stop closed last month. It was one of the best diners around. They blame the economy, but I’ll bet it was those eco-freaks fault.

I wonder if they would consider a trade of leaders?

Would they take the deal if we offered Obama, Reid, Polosi, Clinton [he and her as a matching pair]....We could throw in Oprah.

India still experiences power black outs and needs to build more conventional coal plants to survive. Fat chance they will torpedo their growth for some CO2 limits.
With India and China going their own way..we are plane crazy to do this cap and tax.

Latest calculation I've seen says that to reduce per capita greenhouse gasses far enough to meet Pelosi’s quota, we need to meet an energy goal set somewhere between Ethiopia and Somalia.

For some reason Google Trends always shows that many of the google searches for global warming come from India and mostly countries in the southern hemisphere, far more than the US. I’m curious what the motivation is for their extreme interest. The southern hemisphere is mostly ocean, which rules their climates, and their CO2 output and human population is far less.

Australia is very big on the Global Warming bandwagon. They've had a long, long drought spanning almost or over a decade, now, and have associated it with the GW theories.

Other than them, there are the island nations all over the Southern Hemisphere who are worried about sea-level rise.

Of course they will, Indians have grey matter in their skulls and what's more, they use it. American politicians on the other hand...

The Indians can read the mindset of the Obamamachines crystal clear.

And they can make them look bad at their own game.
