With 15,000 to 20,000 people in attendance, the Atlanta Tea Party on April 15 was a resounding success. Hoping to match or surpass the success of their peaceful and well-organized Tea Party in April, organizers of the July 4 Atlanta Tea Party had planned for a family-friendly Independence Day event that would accommodate a very large crowd of Tea Party Patriots.
The Atlanta Tea Party would have included musical entertainment, face painting, jumbotron televisions, food vendors and speeches from talk show hosts and grassroots activists. The celebration would have brought thousands of potential shoppers into an economically depressed area and would have featured the only Independence Day fireworks show in the county.
With the generous support of a local property owner, George Thorndyke, who made his property available for the Tea Party free of charge, the Tea Party organizers thought they had secured an ideal location for their event.
However, at the eleventh hour, the Atlanta Tea Party was forced to cancel its Independence Day celebration in Gwinnett County after being blind-sided by the objections of Gwinnett Place Mall (a Simon Company). The Tea Party had been scheduled to take place in the parking lot of the old Macy's building at Gwinnett Place since March.
"It is unfortunate the event had to be canceled," said Julianne Thompson, event co-organizer. She continued, "The old Macy's building is on private property, and is not owned by Simon Malls, however the mall manager asked the property owner and I to come in the office on [June 18], and told us Simon does not want political events on its property. They were also concerned about the fact we were using the term 'protest.' Although the event was on private property, the mall was able to assert authority on the matter

No where else to have it in Atlanta area? How about Marietta in Cobb County?
The one here in El Paso has been cancelled too. Haven’t heard word on why.
Supposedly because all of the places they talked to were unavailable.
Yes, there is one in Cobb and the Gwinnett outcasts have been invited to join. I also believe there will be another on the steps of the capitol building although it was put together rather late. It doesn’t stop the fact, however, that a HUGE contributor to the dems and 0 was the cause of this one being cancelled. My fingers are heating up while I write to each of Simons stores telling them the reason I will no longer be bringing my business to his malls. I’d like to hear of more doing the same.
How is it that hundreds of thousands of illegal invaders can simply march in the streets of U.S. cities but American citizens have to get a “permit”?
The Gwinnett event was combined with another event in Cobb County, at Jim R. Miller Park... should be a blast hope to see everyone there!

Atlanta, quit whining about the intervention by the government and hold your tea party somewhere else. Follow the Alinsky 1960’s methodology and get in their faces. This is serious and this government won’t back down. The very reason for tea parties is to take back America. Set an example and meet them head on like the ACORN malcontents.
You will have the backing of tea party goers across the country. Send mayor franklin, her prayer run mentor and the rest of the marxist/socialist malcontents back on their heels. Stand up and speak out for America!
“How is it that hundreds of thousands of illegal invaders can simply march in the streets of U.S. cities but American citizens have to get a permit?”
If there were that many of us out there we wouldn’t need no stinkin’ permit either!
Ah, the Simon brothers. Here in Indiana the corporation that helped finance the LucasOil Stadium (for the Colts) and Conseco Fieldhouse (for the Pacers, owned by the Simon brothers) “needs” $47 million in tax payer money to stay afloat— one of many sticking points in our current budget-less situation. I am a sports fan, but really couldn’t care less if either of these teams continues to play in Indy...

I agree with you.
Twitter worked for Iranians. Flash mobs at the Capital and Centennial Park would be hard to stop.
Eventually, there is going to have to be a powder keg event for these things to really take off. Police are going to have to overreact to peaceful demonstrations. Mass arrests or post-demonstration harassment will have to occur. Something that appears authoritarian and draconian will need to happen for more people to stand up and say “not here.”
I think the way to really get the feds pissed would be for the tea parties to focus on soft tax revolts. Signs should encourage onlookers to raise their witholding exemptions to the highest number possible. There should be preprinted forms available.
The protests signs should also focus on CAUSING Obama businesses to fail. “Close your socialized [bank name] Account” “Buy American Ford, Not Marxist GM” “Support Private Enterprise” “Gov’t Enterprise Must Fail” junk like that.
I am sick and tired of all the protest marches/burning of cities over a WON game, etc. that have gone on in the past, and yet WE can't do anything. We coward down, obey the laws, we don't get in the face enough. Time to get going. We are coming.
Can I ask a STOOOPID question?
If Simon has no legal authority, why aren’t they going ahead with the protest, and force Simon’s hand?
But, but we are a nation of laws and we must play by the rules. We must maintain the high moral ground. We must not descend to their level.
Keep repeating that; it will make you feel better about having your freedom stolen.
