WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday he wants to make the law prohibiting gays from serving openly in the armed forces "more humane" until Congress eventually repeals it. He said he has lawyers studying ways the law might be selectively enforced.
"One of the things we're looking at is, is there flexibility in how we apply this law?" Gates said.
The defense chief, a holdover from the Republican administration of former President George W. Bush, told reporters traveling with him in Europe that the Clinton-era ban was written without much wiggle room. The Pentagon general counsel is looking at potential avenues around full enforcement as a stopgap, Gates said.

Ahhh, there’s no such law.
I hated that series. As someone who spent some time on various carriers, I thought it was BS. They tried to make it like a reality show.
Obviously there's something wrong that needs fixed.
Let the Gays serve in their own battalions and such, maybe the reason we have so many gays here stateside is that none of them have been allowed to shed blood for their country.
When you send only heterosexual folk out to die is it any wonder the numbers of homosexuals increase at home???
But there have to be regulations to protect the heterosexual troops, it is kinda the same with allowing men and women to serve together. You have to enforce it vigilantly, so you don’t have soldiers harassing their gay or straight counterparts. The rule should be this, “We don’t care who you sleep with off base, but you have to leave you sexuality at the front gate or yu get kicked out.”
Gays and all soldiers for that matter should also have regular STD checks as well to prevent the spread of infectious agents inside units.

Although I don't fault his Intel (02) qualifications, Gates has none of the real-world operational (03) seasoning to flavor his decision-making process — and the Secretary's performance has so reflected since his appointment.
The tragic aspect of this important detriment is that TOTUS has only his fellow Marxist thugs and Clinton to balance the national security ledger.
Result: The likelihood of potentially catastrophic national strategic and even tactical decision making.

Gates is living proof that there is a malevolent, diabolical power structure in place to sabotage the power of the USA, in order to pave the way for World Government.
Weakening the effectiveness of our military branches as fighting forces is just one of many frontal assaults that are being simultaneously mounted against our power, prestige, and sovereignty.
Gates is nothing less than a paid saboteur, who happens to do his work mostly in the open.
Gates does what he’s told by Obama. Gates does nothing on his own.
