As for the current healthcare debate, Sen. Graham opposes socialized medicine.
"A government option will destroy private sector competition over time. No one in private healthcare business in south Carolina can compete against the federal government," said Sen. Graham.
On one hand, President Barack Obama is pushing a public plan where uninsured Americans could get affordable healthcare, but it wouldn't be mandatory.
On the other hand, Sen. Graham says costs would mount, wait times would increase, and quality of care would decrease, so he's supporting another idea.
"I do believe we need to come up with a new system. in that regard, I am on a bipartisan board of six Democrats and six Republicans, that will allow public choice -- private purchases of health care, but would mandate every American be covered," said Sen. Graham.
Yes -- mandatory coverage -- much like the requirement to have car insurance.
Sen. Graham says South Carolina's medical community is sending him a clear message.
"They are deathly afraid of the government taking over more medicine because that's going to put a bureaucrat between them and their patients," said Sen. Graham.
Graham says he wants to spend the rest of the year looking at options and continuing the healthy debate.

What, no mandate for all of “God’s children” to be covered too?
I can understand why Lindsy finds a relationship with a woman hard to understand....
I agree. Somehow I don’t think he’s ever been tempted so he probably just doesn’t get it.
I am so sick of this stupid fag
Ping!
Now, Lindsey - step out of the closet, you are fooling no one. Everyone and their Grandmother knows that you dance on that side of the aisle. Richard Chamberlain in his Seventies did it and so did Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken and you can too. Your opponents know your secret and another one of your colleagues and they will use it against you./Just Asking - seoul62.......
but would mandate every American be covered,”...
Mandated anything = rapid and constant rise in pricing.
Graham: “Ooooooooo, gross! Mark likes GIRLS! Girls have COOTIES!”
Here we go again. A republican going the “we can me too it better”.
Rino!
There should be no government in medicine at all.
No medicare, no medicare prescription drugs....period.
I’m over 80, so I would have to pay for a lot of stuff I do not pay for now.
Insurance should be for catastrophic events, just as it is with auto insurance.
Your auto insurance does not pay for an oil change or tire rotation. Neither should medical insurance pay for physicals, eye exams, flue shots, etc.
I like you screen name. harumpf harumpf harumpf. I have recd a call from the RNC every day for the past 2 weeks. It is either “listen to Michael Reagan” pre recorded message, or someone directly from RNC wanting money.
I will support individual republicans ONLY. I’ve given every year for the past 20 years ... they can’t seem to figure out why I wont give them another cent.
No reason to get hostile with the phone person .. they are just another flunky doing telemareketing that no one else will do. But .. I tell them until the RNC gets backbone and some principles ... to leave me alone. Doubt that message ever gets transmitted up the line, I’m sure the telemareketer just shrugs it off.
We have got to rid this entire party of worthless libs and moderates. As an old Iowa farm boy I know what happens when one straddles a barb wire fence. It “ain’t pleasant. Either get on one side or the other .. please no more straddling the fence RINO’s. We are losing this country and our freedoms provided by the constitution because of them .... not the democrats.
A democrat is what he is .... the RINO’s handed everything we had over to them and gave them a kiss as well. The fault lies with gutless moderates.
The 40 dems that did not sign cap and trade are by far men with priciple compared to the sniveling 8 with the “r” behind there name that did sign on.
morons
Idiot Graham. No we don’t need anything but for all of the stupid government regulations to be removed so that the health care industry can compete. Just leave us alone you moron!
Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Add me to the list. / Remove me from the list.
In MA, everyone is required to have insurance, or face a $1500 a year charge when they file their income tax forms. We wanted a high deductible Catastrophic plan, and wanted to pay for routine care from an HSA, but those types of plans are not allowed. We had to get a basic plan @9K a year, which was just fine for us, cause we were still able to have an HSA for non-covered items, and the balances of what the insurance didn't cover.
Unfortunately, when the plan came due to be re-upped last December, we were forced to get Prescription Drug Coverage at an additional $4K a year! We didn't want it, and don't need it, but we're being forced to pay for it. We won't come close to using $4K worth of meds this year, even though I had a Cardiac Ablation and needed 2 shots a day for two weeks at $75 a pop, and have Blood Pressure and Anti-Arrythmia meds! I'd rather have that money to put in an HSA! At least we could be earning interest on it.
The problem with having the government in charge is that they try to force everyone into a 'one size fits all' plan, and that doesn't work.
