COLUMBIA, S.C. -- COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford declared his Argentine mistress his soul mate Tuesday but said he is committed to reconciling with his wife in hopes of saving his family and what is left of his political career.
Sanford, who also admitted meeting his lover more times than he had previously claimed, told The Associated Press in emotional interviews that he "crossed lines" with a handful of other women during 20 years of marriage.
But he said he never went as far as he did with Maria Belen Chapur, the woman at the center of the scandal that has derailed his once-promising political future.

She needs to dump him ASAP. How could you ever trust him again? Sanford is bad news and the faster she dumps him the quicker she can get on with her life. When it came out he has been with other women in the past but this was the first one he went all the way, then it is over. Take him to the cleaners.
Maybe his ‘soul mate’ can give him plane fair to Argentina.
It is not wrong. I don’t think you can humiliate the guy he is so far gone.
He would have divorce papers so fast he wouldn’t know what hit him if it were me but he would have had those when he asked me to go see his lover. Reconcile with someone you cannot trust — no way.
Agree as well. After learning the details, Mrs. Sanford went from ‘southern lady’ to down right fool. The minute his deceiving ass asked for permission, I would have said go and don’t come back.

Can you imagine a husband asking his wife to go see his mistress in South America? I agree with you 100% — he would have been gone and told never to darken my door again.

Interpretation: He has played around before. Maria Belan Chapur was the first “play around” which he desired to change the mistress to wife status.

May I ask why you don't like him? I no longer reside in SC, so I really have no idea, and in fact was hoping that he would run in 2012.
This whole ongoing mess has really got me down at the moment; I'm wondering what I missed, exactly - what many of us missed about Mark Sanford.
If I were his wife, I'd be just about ready to kick a mud hole in him and stomp it dry right about now. I am continually amazed at his inability to know right from wrong and his inability to keep his mouth shut.
All I mean is that there could have been an affair that none of us (the public) had to know about, but Sanford acted like Gary Hart, Clinton, JOhn Edwards and all those other heroes of yesteryear who dared anyone to look behind the curtain. Sanford’s image apparently is nowhere to close to the reality that we are now seeing unfold, and it is pretty absured. Of course, I want a conservative leader that actually walks the talk as a follower of Christ. Is that too much to ask? Do only looney egomaniacs run for office these days on both sides of the aisle?
