During the past 3 1/2 years, my country has lived through a sad satire of governance. Influenced by the No. 1 promoter of 21st-century socialism, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, our ex-president, Manuel Zelaya, took us down the road of social divide, propaganda and the absolute void of checks and balances with one end in mind: to stay in power indefinitely...
Running a campaign disguised as promoting change for the people and true direct participation of the masses, Zelaya started to promote this project with all his might. The judicial branch deemed this project illegal, as did our electoral tribunal and the Attorney General's Office.
Nonetheless, these institutions started to be portrayed as part of the groups of power that were afraid of change, tyrants opposed to the people of our country...Sound familiar, Mr. Chavez?
Last week, Mr. Zelaya issued executive orders to the armed forces to carry out the first phase of the constitutional reform project. The head of the armed forces, knowing that this order was illegal and unconstitutional, said "No." Mr. Zelaya went on national TV and fired Gen. Romeo Vasquez, but our nation's Supreme Court reinstated him...
...the armed forces restored peace and democracy to our country, backed by all institutions: legislative branch; judicial branch; political parties, including the former president's own party; business bureaus; and most other groups representing society. Their stance sends a clear message: No one, not even the president, is above the law.
We may not be a perfect country...but we do know what we do not want. We do not want a system in which the only power resides in the hands of the president, who can be re-elected indefinitely...We do not want 21st-century communism....
Even if the world and networks frown at us, we smile.

Sounds like a CONSTITUTIONAL system of “checks & balances” to me. TOO BAD it doesn’t work anymore in the good olde USA.
We can’t even check to see if the candidate for the highest office in the country is CONTITUTIONALLY qualified with a valid domestic birth certificate.
Honduras is saving themselves from THEIR Obama.
Will we save ourselves from OUR Obama?
Obama gets it. He's not that stupid. What's going on is that Obama just showed us all his true intentions: He intends to be President for Life. And this Zelaya is a wonderful chance to see if he can 1) Create another tyrannical ally in Latin America, and 2) Experiment with different formulas that might work in securing the tyrant's power.

Very scary, indeed. And it was the Supreme Court in Honduras which rejected their president’s bid to be president for life and ordered the army to remove him. Pray that Obama does not control our Supreme Court.
Can someone post a link to an English translation of the Constitution of Honduras? I have a .pdf of it in the Spanish language, but my Spanish is AWFUL!

They know this from experience re. Bonilla and others who put Hondura through hellish times in the late 19th century at the behest of ruthless U.S. based fruit companies. Hondura is an original ‘bananna republic’.

I don’t think it’s as simple as it sounds. Once something like this gets on the move, things happen that may get out of control. It’s like a revolution that means well when it starts but gets moving so fast and violent, things get out of control. Once things settle down they may be able to go back to text book procedures. But until then, they have to do what they must to finish the job. It’s something like a war. You can have all the plans you want......once the first shot is fired, everything changes.
You can bet The Obama is.
The military says that Mr. Zelaya resigned his office in a deal to escape prosecution and leave the country. This appears to be a deal accepted by all parties - the army, the courts, the congress. The congress, apparently, has the power to indict the president. In that they acceded to the alternative plea deal, that would seem to be in keeping with their constitution.
The army did not then appoint a replacement. The congress did that, following the succession rules spelled out in Honduras’ constitution.

Sounds like the stunt Aristide pulled when we rescued him from Haiti. He begged for rescue and once he was safe he accused us of kidnapping him.
I suspect it was done to embarrass us into helping him back into power. Naturally Obozo is too stupid to recognize it.
I actually have some experience with this: A German friend who came to America told me that we are nowhere as free as Germans are.
