21,000 to exhaust state jobless checks in mid-July

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - More than 20,000 Pennsylvanians are expected to exhaust their jobless benefits in mid-July.

The state Department of Labor and Industry expects them to be the first large wave of people who have gone through as many as 72 weeks of unemployment benefits.

Labor and Industry Department Deputy Secretary Patrick Beaty says the agency sent letters to 21,000 people last week notifying them.

He says there is still no letup in applications for benefits, and the agency does not expect the rising unemployment rate to ease in the coming months.

I don’t have stats, but outside of the two major urban areas, it is largely red.

A lot of people are suffering because of those in a few zip codes.

So there's another 21,000 off the jobless roles.

That doesn't mean they have jobs but they're off the roles.

America lost it’s balance, when the populace were made to believe that the SOURCE and origin of wealth is Gov’t., Sad, I hope these people can use their God given creative powers, and design ways to solve their sad plights, and not just live with an extended hand. It’s tough, Isaiah 46 v. 3 and 4... God is the Caregiver from the Cradle to the Grave...not the gov’t coffers.

Ship out the jobs, people stop buying stuff, credit runs out, economy crashes. So what's their solution?

Raise energy taxes on the few companies that are still here.

In these people are REALLY looking for jobs, they then have the following alternatives :

1) Take ANY job available ( meaning, a former office worker might have to accept a greeter's job or a janitorial job ).

2) Move out of state to find something available ( no guarantees ).

3) Start a business ( easier said than done ).

4) STARVE or depend on charity.

I can't think of any other alternatives.

We needed Pennsylvania to keep Obama out of office. They went for Obama and now he's president (allegedly).

Pennsylvania, I HOPE you are enjoying the CHANGE. Great way to lose some weight and smarten up a bit. Also, get used to the unemployment driven poverty! Crap and trade should about finish you off! Oh, and be sure to vote for SPECTER in 2010, too!

What do you mean “sitting on their rears?”

I have been out of work since October. I cannot even find a job at the local Valero, making coffee at midnight. Many people aren’t taking part time jobs for fear they will lose their COBRA benefits. I sent out 900 resumes so far, been to countless job fairs as well as networking events.

But I really am looking forward to the 12 million illegals who will become citizens, because I need more people to compete with for the dwindling number of jobs out there. /sarc

Many people are trying their hardest to find work. I know I cannot stand to sit home and collect, especially when in three months if I don’t find work I will be one of the people taken off the unemployment rolls. Then what? Welfare? Medicaid? SCHIP?

I was employed steadily for 31 years until my job was eliminated 5 weeks ago;I’m not old enough yet for social security,(59) and any job that comes up has a few thousand applicants.I even applied at a carpet cleaning company,and the girl said they already had over 250 applicants.Yeah,its tough and doesn’t look to improve anytime soon.

And the fat payroll taxes on employers to pay for those 17 months of benefits are doing their part at suppressing new hires.
