Gay Leaders Celebrate Anniversary Of LGBT Movement With Obama Monday

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - President Barack Obama celebrates the birth of the LGBT movement on Monday with a White House reception amid discontent among gay groups over his apparent hesitance to follow through with campaign promises such as overturning the government's ban against homosexuals serving freely in the military.

The President and First Lady Michelle Obama host a reception in the East Room at 4:25 pm ET that will "recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the gay community. The event is part of Obama's proclamation marking June as LGBT Pride Month, and coincides with the 40th anniversary of 1969 riots that began in the Stonewall Inn, considered the birth of the modern gay movement.

Obama holds the reception less than two weeks after signing a memorandum granting job benefits to same-sex couples of federal employees. The memo was seen by some observers as an effort to quell growing dissatisfaction with the administration's reticence over repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, a federal law passed in 1996, and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

The President's decision to extend federal benefits to gay couples also came as several states moved to legalize same-sex marriages.

Early this month, the Obama administration field a legal brief in response to a lawsuit filed by a gay couple, Arthur Smelt and Christopher Hammer, who married in California and are challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. Gay groups had slammed the President in response, accusing him of reneging on campaign pledges.

In May, bloggers had also taken note about a change in the White House website's Civil Rights page, which had listed the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and DOMA among its eight goals, but suddenly did not make mention of either law. The page has now been updated to say, Obama "supports repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security."

Asked if the White House was holding a reception because it was feeling the heat from gay groups, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a Friday briefing, "No, this is an event scheduled around Pride Month."

This year's week-long celebration of the Stonewall anniversary began with the annual LGBT Pride Rally in New York.

A government-sanctioned celebration of sexual deviancy....honouring perversion.

Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine something like this.

At 4:25 pm. Okay, the question for the day is: Will she be sober?

(I think she still has the key to the WH liquor cabinet.)

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I could be taken to task by good conservative folks for even supposing the homosexuality is a perversion.

It's now the lay of the land. The whole "homosexuality is an acceptably normal lifestyle choice" concept has even made inroads into the conservative mindset.

Will K-K-K-Katie Couric be reporting the private time that Hussein has with his homosexual supporters in that little kitchen just off the Oval Office?

Political correctness is more powerful than we think.

Everything is the opposite of what it used to be.....it wasn’t that long ago that it would have been considered absolutely outrageous to suggest that it was “normal” to participate in sexual acts with someone of the same gender.

Now, those of us who still think this way are the ones who should keep our opinions to ourselves, if we know what’s good for us. We are all so afraid of being “judgmental or intolerant”. Amazing example of the power of peer pressure.

that will "recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the gay community.

And just what exactly are these accomplishments? I'm serious---what are they other than promotion of their perversions? again.. I ask seriously--what are the accomplishments of the 'gay community'?

I wonder if that Puke from Duke is invited? I also wonder what the Obamas will do with the kids while the peculiar lovefest is going on?

“The accomplishments of the gay community” has been to turn this country into one vast backed-up sewer and mad house.
