President Obama on Sunday called on all actors in Honduras to respect the rule of law after military leaders there arrested President Manuel Zelaya to head off Zelaya's attempt to hold a vote on constitutional changes deemed illegal by the country's Supreme Court and Congress.
Zelaya, in a move similar to his ally, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, had wanted to overturn the law that prohibited him from seeking another term in office. He called the arrest a "coup" and a "kidnapping."
"I am deeply concerned by reports coming out of Honduras regarding the detention and expulsion of President Mel Zelaya," Obama said in a written statement.

Chavez is next!
He wants a reciprocal agreement of support if the military seizes him.
I am aware that Barack is a "constitutional" scholar... perhaps he can tell us whether or not the Honduras' Supreme Court has the power to order the military to arrest the President for trying to push an illegal poll to do an end run around the country's constitution?
Zelaya will end up settling here and be taken care of by we the taxpayers.
Now 0 and his band of nitwits may try to force the new government in Honduras to accept Zelaya back just like we did in Haiti.
The GOP needs to call Obama out!
There he goes again. “Meddling”. I hope all of the “actors” tell him to shut the hell up.
I knew he had to be a communist — first two stories I saw were “Chavez slams Coup” and “Obama deeply concerned” — right then I knew this guy was a marxist as the two biggest Marxists in the world are supporting him.
I have never been more ashamed or disgusted in my own country.

Isn’t nobama meddling in the affairs of another nation by speaking out? Obviously different rules for Iran and Honduras.
I think in United States, the only way to remove the POTUS is by conviction of impeachment in the Senate.
I don’t recall Hussein grovelling in front of this guy, did I miss something?
Obama can meddle in Honduras but not in Iran?
Ping.
I have friends in Honduras. This guy was trying to set himself up as President for life. He wants to do away with the constitution, fired the military, won’t listen to the legislature and ignores the courts. All of those, the military, the legislature and the courts said he was trying to pull a scheme just like Chavez or Castro. So they deposed him...anybody that calls for his reinstatment doesn’t understand the story, or agrees that it’s okay for a President to ignore the constitution of a country and try to do things illegally.
It's interesting that there have been 3 recent attempts to eliminate presidential term limits, coincidence?
If there is concern about the rule of law, sounds like the Honduran prez is the odd-man-out. The fact that the Venezuelan and Cuban ambassadors were allegedly roughed up makes me think they played more than just a passive supportive role.
