George Bush's legacy and fight endures in the Mid East, despite, and in spite of Obama, and THAT is Obama's real dilema.

It was George Bush's policy of direct engagement and support of liberty that has led to the people of Iran seeing the measure of freedom now established on both sides of them in Iraq and Afghjanistan...and desiring it for themselves.

Obama cannot possibly go too far in recognizing that, or he absolutely repudiates himself and his entire foreign policy.

...but Obama doesn't want to "meddle".

Yes, the fight in Iran goes on and it sounds like this morning it might be getting bigger.

If what I read from a machine translation from a twitter blurb this morning is correct the demonstrations are huge.

From Twitter:

“Many of the people Shemiran moving towards the mosque are. Around 700 thousand population, a large mosque in cassock and surrounding are “

(machine translations are always suspect, but the 700 was sent in numerals and the rest was spelled out with the Farsi word for “thousand”.)

If correct that is a huge demonstration.

Well, Jeff, at the rate we're going, America may well have to "take the Ceauşescu challenge" before too much longer. As I said in my 4th of July speech, if what they're saying doesn't square with what they're doing; if it looks like there's an concerted effort to destroy our once Constitutional Republic and replace it with... something else - then you're probably right. None of what's happening today makes any sense unless you look at it that way - and then it makes a perfectly clear and terrible sort of sense, doesn't it?
