Six states are currently looking to add an "opt out" law to their books to protect citizens from the possibility of a national healthcare plan imposed by federal fiat.

Arizona started the ball rolling by introducing the Health Care Freedom Act, a voting initiative that will be put before voters on the 2010 ballot. If accepted by the majority of the voters, Arizona will be able to opt out of any federal healthcare laws passed by Washington. Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota and Wyoming are considering similar measures.

The arrogance of Congress and the president worries many of these state lawmakers, some even consider Obama's healthcare policies a naked power grab...

Yep, my mom told me about this a week ago and thought to myself “Arizona is a good place to live - and we have Sheriff Joe running the jails and kicking out illegal immigrants”

Come to Arizona! We left California in 1996 and haven’t looked back!

Wow, you have narrowed down my choices for retirement living. I know that here in Michigan this will never happen and we need to escape.

Yep, after cap and trade, my beloved Texas is getting the shaft. Time to rekindle those secession talks.

I’m sure Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska will add their names to this list.

Looked forward to seeing Florida on the short list. Alas, I remembered Charlie Crist is the governor.

Crap, I live in NJ.
Haven’t got a chance.
Except, my husband is in a union, and I am not.
I wonder, would it be beneficial to drop my coverage and go under his.
Interestly enough, we both work for the same company.
Isn’t that a hoot.

Now, if these states will simply stick to their guns and follow through, this will be good. And frankly, this is the way that all of us must respond to this Administration; resistance and refusal.

One thing I never hear about Canadian health care, the plan is administered on a provincial (state to you) basis. The federal government pays the provinces and gives them guidelines, but does not administer the programs.

As I understand it, the US program would be funded and administered from Washington. This is a prescription for disaster.

Health Care Freedom Act

Just the name says it all. Marxist monsters in the Democratic Party and going to break up the Union.

Hopefully more Americans will vote with their feet.

[[Wow, you have narrowed down my choices for retirement living. I know that here in Michigan this will never happen and we need to escape.]]

Yep, same for where we live- Hopefully, the govenrment will see people moving out of states where there is no opt out option, and get hte message, but I doubt they will recognize that people do NOT want government meddling in private business. The ONLY thing Obama is concerned with is ‘leavign behind a legacy’ for beign hte first president to nationalizehealth care- regardless of how it hurts America!

[[Yep, after cap and trade, my beloved Texas is getting the shaft. Time to rekindle those secession talks.]]

secession talks in the past haven’t really been taken seriously in this country, but with our govenrment sticking it’s nose into businesses the way they are- I think states will now take these talks VERY seriously, and perhaps even move to actually seceed fro m the country, and if such states do so, expect a great migration of people looking to escape from the very same kind of government we escaped from in the first place over in England.

However, look at what Obama and the Demoncrats did to SC governor for refusing to receive the stimulus package- IF states decide to seceed, then expect our mafia run government to attempt to subjugate by force

Unfortunately, the Public Plan as proposed will use tax Dollars to undercut any private plan and taxes for health insurance provided to force employers to push people into the public plan no matter what they want.

This opt out law would be totally ineffective.

This administration has no desire whatso ever of providing a level playing field so they could over subsidize the public plan to levels never sustainable for the first few years to force conversions then when reality catches up, it will be too late and the mess will be irreversable and folks will just have to figure how to make it actually work.. in a worse situation than it would have been because of the excess spending to force conversion.. then its soilent green time.. I expect.

Ironic isn’t it. These “Marxist monsters” and their strong support of Unions, yet the Union of most importance they destroy.

Voters? You mean there are politicians in Arizona who give a rats behind about the rights/wishes of the voters? Evidently McCain has been thrown out?

This would destroy choice ultimately.

Nobody is going to compete with a government run program.

It will drive private insurers out of business.

And once that happens, you will have to do what the government tells you to do about your healthcare. No choice, no option. And you will not be able to sue the government for anything bad that happens.
