Karl Rove is a legend in his own mind. He and Graham tried to push amnesty down our throats and called those who opposed it bigots and nativists. Rove helped destroy the GOP control over Congress strongarming Reps to support doubling the education budget and establishing the prescription drug program.

I did not know that and this is amazing because I read the Dallas Morning News which printed about 17 long columns negative to Rove back in the day.

I don’t know how old you are, but isn’t there a new rule that you can take your 401K out without penalty if you are 55 and no longer working.

Right on! We have a media mutual repudiation society. I am done with putting energy into worrying about the ramblings of the loquacious Lefty hacks who infest the media. I save my invective for members of the rabble- e.g. the 69,498,215 Obama voters- that I chance to meet. Whenever the like of Axelrod begin to speak, I hit the mute button.

Grassley and Barbour, however, were worth listening to this AM. I think Grassley was especially wise to mention Healthcare Co-ops. People have to be given alternatives that appeal to their need to be in charge of their lives whilst blunting the collectivist siren call for a disastrous cradle to grave system.

Heck, I thought Ipanema was in Panama frankly.

I am 59 but husband is 57.

So he’s over 55 and he is no longer worker. Husband DID get approval for SS disa just this past week in fact. Right now he should be eligible to get at that 401K for being disabled but see, like I said, we really don’t need it now. I mean he’s GOT the disa. money now. It was that first six months with his company’s little $200 a week short term disa, which we were extremely grateful for as they didn’t have to do that as it’s not a benefit....and it DID provide us our much needed health insurance. Most folks don’t even get this. Then we had a couple of months with NO money at all and we STILL had to pay the COBRA, and again, we couldn’t get at the 401K money as it was too risky to take on the premise of being disabled, which IS allowed, without the assurity of being declared disabled by the SS. And you aren’t qualified for SSI if you have over $4,000 or some such in a 401K. I call it a Catch-22 as it makes no sense at all. Of course we could have used the 401K and fought it out with the IRS in terms of tax penalties but it seems to me that this could be handled way better.

As to your law about being over 55 and no longer working, well that sure makes sense to me. But it seems like there should be a reason why you aren’t working...like, duh, being DISABLED....and maybe you’re right.

Husband’s brother is a financial advisor and he didn’t think that 401K was touchable until age 59.5.

Our 401K is a lot of bucks in that husband saved all his life into it with employer matches, stock splits, etc. If I had to I would have taken the funds and fought with the IRS but it’s like everything else with the gubmint...IT MAKES NO SENSE AND HAS NO BASIS IN REALITY.

Now we got the SS disability and don’t need the 401K.

Unfortunately you tagged Rove pretty well and since you have been around these guys far more than I or many here I always value your opinion.

Rove is good at diagnosing what the rats are up to next and perhaps a post,such as he currently has, on FNC, is where he belongs.

You are absolutely correct however that the win at any cost group should be avoided like the plague.

Actually in the name of defeating these left wing libtards I prefer to listen to what they have to say. Especially Axeldork since he is the Mandarin's brain.

This guy is super slick and always agenda oriented with zero's popularity numbers embedded in the back of his mind. I like to hear exactly what ploy he has in mind next.

I became disenchanted with Rove over the immigration issue. He failed to support the Sensenbrenner bill, HR 4437 [enforcement first,] and tried to force the 2006 Senate amnesty bill, Hagel-Martiniz, which passed despite the Reps voting 32-23 against it, thru the House. Fortunately, Sensenbrenner made it DOA and it was never brought for a vote.

We had the sorry spectacle of people like Karl Rove, John McCain, and Lindsay Graham castigating their fellow Republicans who opposed amnesty using such epithets as bigots, racists, and nativists. These criticisms just reinforce the Democrat branding of the GOP and alienate minorities who perceive that they are not welcome in the party. Moreover, being branded as a “racist” political party hurts the GOP in recruiting new members, regardless of race or ethnicity. America is not a racist country and no one wants to be associated with a racist organization.

I can't forgive Rove for what he did. And he still believes that we should have an amnesty, i.e., legalize the status of the 12 to 30 million illegals. I know you believe the number is much higher than the government's estimate of 12 million. Rove still has a lot of influence in the party and he is not a conservative.

Your description of win at any cost earlier remains so accurate. As is so apparent such a strategy,get the Hispanic vote at any cost will never advance the world of conservatism but instead yield only more rinos which in the long run destroys the party.And any chance of the party becoming more conservative.

And so did I, for decades... But now, I prefer to rely on sources such as Free Republic to keep up with the Left's latest contortions. It's much easier on my stomach.

Militarily,and this is a war for freedom, I want to know my enemy.
That's why I listen anytime they are spouting strategy. Also its always interesting to hear the rats squeak knowing they will usually do just the opposite of what they claim.
