CHEVY CHASE, Md. - Authorities have released the names of a mother and child who were killed when part of a large tree fell on a minivan in Chevy Chase.
Kelly M. Murray, 40, of Chevy Chase and her 7-year-old daughter Sloane Murray were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say six additional children were also in the minivan at the time of the incident. The group was heading home from a local swimming pool when a storm swept through -- knocking down a tree about three feet in diameter that practically cut the van in half. Sources say the six other children were also females and range in age from 10 months to 11 years old. They were all transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Matthew 24:37-42
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
It’s wise to stay off the road in wooded areas when limb-downing winds are blowing. A whole 3’ tree. Brother!

There was some speculation it was a microburst.
I don’t know where it is said that God plans to have trees blow over on millions of people’s heads simultaneously.
The good Lord sneezed from heaven at the stench of Congress?
OK, seriously, that is a naturally storm ridden area. Chicago area was hit by similar stiff winds a couple of years ago. I got as much free firewood during the following weeks as I could haul away in my truck.
It’s hard to know what the heavens are up to with this crowd in control of our government.
That’s sad.
I’ve seen tree branches on cars as a result of storms and it can be pretty nasty.
Mom ping.

She was driving Sloane, four of her other children — Meghan, 11, Maeve, 6, Quinn, 2, and Kieran, 10 months — and two of the youngsters’ friends home from swim practice with the Chevy Chase Recreation Association’s Stingrays team, Friel said. A meet scheduled for last night was suspended, a club spokesman said.
One of the childrens’ friends broke her arm, Friel said. Meghan was hospitalized overnight for minor head injuries but was released yesterday. The couple’s oldest child, Jillian, 12, was home at the time of the accident.
Friends and relatives described Murray, a clinical psychologist, as a “superwoman.” A tenured professor at Loyola University in Baltimore and a U.S. Navy officer, according to Friel, she owned and operated a private practice, ran a summer camp focused on building young girls’ self-esteem and coached youth soccer.
Murray was active in her church, the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Northwest Washington, which will hold a memorial service for Murray and Sloane at 7 p.m. tomorrow

Wow that’s a whole tree, not a tree branch!
When it’s your time, it’s your time, I guess. Sad. Prayers for the family.
The mother was quite an impressive lady. I am sure she will be very missed - especially by her poor kids.

Taps in memory of Supermom.
To be orphaned, and bereft of a sister, in such a violent way. Or half orphaned. Where was/is the Dad?

From photos I have seen he is also a Navy Veteran
Prayers for Mrs. Murray and Sloane her daughter. May God bless them and keep them, and may God bless and protect her surviving children, husband and family. Amen.
