Open Letter to Freepers: The U.S. As You've Known It Is Already Dead

While reading the following news story:

http://uk.reuters.com/article/motoringAutoNews/idUKTRE5406CF20090501

----------------

I was reminded two very important quotes from John Adams about the American Revolution:

* As to the history of the revolution, my ideas may be peculiar, perhaps singular. What do we mean by the Revolution? The war? That was no part of the revolution; it was only an effect and consequence of it. The revolution was in the minds of the people, and this was effected from 1760 - 1775, in the course of fifteen years, before a drop of blood was shed at Lexington. o Letter to Thomas Jefferson (1815-08-24), The Works of John Adams

What do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution. * Letter to H. Niles (1818-02-13)

----------------

In other words, years before the American Revolution, there had been a revolution in people's minds about the way things were and the way things should be.

Forget the disputes over just how real are Obama's high poll numbers. This is beyond Obama, or even his current followers.

Whether we realize it or not, the US went through another mental revolution of thought over the past few decades -- maybe beginning as far back as the anti-war protests of the 1960s, maybe to Roosevelt's New Deal, maybe to Lincoln forcing a more centralized Union...whatever.

This revolution of thought has slowly eroded the entire mental foundation of the country's founding principles.

The U.S., as it was and as many of us here still think of it, is already gone. Dead. A number of us have not fully caught up to this emerging reality.

Obama, and Bush before him, are only making that obvious. Steele, Arlen Spectre, the feckless GOP, all the rest -- it's all part of bigger picture already drawn and entrenched, maybe even before many of us were born.

Many of us are holding onto a mental artifact that is gone or never existed in the minds of our "fellow Americans." That remains true no matter what happens to Obama, long after he's gone.

Does that mean we give up? No. But that if you're making a personal decision not to give up, you have to start thinking more seriously about follow-up to those Tea Parties and perhaps to secession.

The U.S. is, beyond everything else, an idea. When our "fellow Americans" no longer share the basic elements of that idea -- of even basic standards of mutual respect, logic, reason, civil discourse, respect for others as equals -- our "fellow Americans" are no longer our "fellow Americans."

Plan accordingly.

Adams said the revolution started in the minds of the colonists. The Marxists have been in the midst of their revolution for decades and are now in power. It is time for the pendulum to swing the other way, but how to persuade the uneducated masses against a chocolate covered lie when the truth is considered hate speech?

My mother’s family immigrated from Finland (settled in Minnesota), and I know what the Finish did to the Ruskies attempt at occupation. Tough people.

I love this place. I love the history here. My roots run deep. I must, however, recognize that being buried here before my time because of succumbing to government imposed starvation or restricted medical access may not be best serving my family or my ideals.

Understood. I don't have a family to consider so my decision to stand my ground is much easier than yours.

“What is Texas or Alaska decide to secede, providing a haven for like-minded Americans?”

My family would seriously consider a move, though I think Idaho would go with the other free states.

If what you say is true, why did Obama campaign as a center-right candidate? Why does Obama accept the need to lie about what he is doing? If we've gone through the mental revolution, why does Obama use the terms of the old regime?

No Obama and the Democrats are trying to implement the revolution on the basis of lies and stealth. That's their strength and their weakness.

Obama's personal popularity is completely based on his own personal presence as a moderate and thoughtful person, his race and a propagandistic Dinosaur Media. What are his numbers going to be when unemployment is acknowledged as over 10% and rising?

If only we had an opposition political party that would behave like a political party. That would move this process so much faster.

You also have many, many friends in other states that would operate behind "enemy" lines.

Chiming in from occupied New Jersey!

Given Obama's inflated ego and the liberals' notion that he is another Lincoln.....would we see a repeat?

Most of the military are the sons and daughters of conservatives. There are some exceptions, but 99% ain’t gonna shoot at Ma an Pa,no matter who tells them to do it.

That is precisely why Obama wants an internal security force.

A descendant of John Adams - Henry Adams - wrote that no American dies in the land in which he was born. The country changes radically within a generation.

Adam Smith said that a country can absorb a lot of ruin, but we have absorbed so much so fast that we have passed the tipping point. We have shipped our manufacturing base overseas (in the name of free trade) and we have allowed an invasion by millions of unskilled workers (in fear of being called racists.) We have watched the vulgarization of our culture; witness now the obsessive worship of a dead pedophile.

When it is all over, we will wake up to the reality that we are a lot poorer and a lot less free.

[Ironic, isn’t it? The far leftists will fight to re-establish slavery rather than abolish it. And they are left by a part black man who probably had slave trading ancestors.

Never in my wildest imagination did I think that my adult years would be spend worrying about enslavement by our government.]

Historically, youth have been rebellious. Once on their own, like away from home and at college, many tend to go against the prevailing norm. In the sixties the prevailing norm was Constitutional government. They rebelled against it and became “the new revolutionaries” for the Left, with some help and inspiration from the Left of course. That has continued for almost fifty years until their kind is now in power, as President, Congress, the MSM, academia, the unions, etc. They have gained almost total power.

Now that they are the norm, we should encourage those on campus who are rebelling against the Left, those Young Republican and other conservative clubs and movements. After all, freedom, free enterprise, and even Christianity are exhilarating subjects of intellectual pursuit when properly presented. Our message of Truth and Love and Spirit is more exciting and more fulfilling than theirs. We just have to energize it.

The Left honors the artful lie, the corruption of language and the twisting of meanings. We honor logic, truth and common sense. Unfortunately, we have sat back and expected logic, truth and common sense to prevail on their own, as they should. However, against the weight of rabid and energetic onslaught of leftists lies, truth logic and common sense were overwhelmed.

We must fight back with as much energy for the truth as they have poured into lies. We must support the conservative youth as they have supported the radical activists.

Today, truth is like a virgin who has been ravished and discarded in an alley by the Left. We must pick her up, clean her up and nurse her back to health. We can’t restore her virginity but we can restore her respectability and reputation.

For those who want to starve the beast - if you haven’t noticed that is the strategy they are employing against us. Their policies inevitably lead to bankruptcy, but instead of us arising against them then, after the catastrophe, you will see them using the crisis to tightening their grip even more and perhaps bringing in outside forces to help enslave us.

No, we can’t wait! We must stand now and make our voices heard for truth and common sense. Not all Americans are brain dead, not even moderates and Democrats. As their old slogan said we must speak truth to power. Of course for them it was a lie. What they really did was speak lies to gain power. They distorted the conservative truth and replaced it with Leftist distortions. We need to speak real truth to corrupt power and we need to do it now.

I love the optimists here. They think that it is feasible to take a second world populace - fast becoming a third world populace - and return it to a democracy dependent upon first world values and ethics.

I’m sorry to inform that it’s impossible to make filet mignon out of dog doo.
