Are we marching toward communism?
The Longview News-Journal ^ | June 27, 2009 | Tom Leahy

Posted on 06/27/2009 12:20:28 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I hardly ever read, much less believed, anything I found in Pravda. It is a hangover from the Cold War when I believed nothing printed in that paper. However, while trolling through the "Drudge Report" the other day I stumbled across an article that grabbed my attention. It was titled "American capitalism gone with a whimper" by Mat Rodina. The writer takes the view America is well on it's way to becoming a Marxist state.

Mat Rodina states the destruction of religion, the educational system, and the election of Barack Obama as president signal we are well on our way to becoming a communist state. Also,Prime Minster Putin warned the British prime minster and our president not to follow the path toward communism because it only leads to disaster. It is difficult to believe the Russian government is warning the West about the evils of communism, but nothing surprises me anymore.

The warnings about the destruction of our educational system are not new. Many writers have warned us we were dumbing down our universities and the liberal arts curriculum had been destroyed by the left in an effort to increase the diversity of the courses.

The destruction of organized religion owes more to the mainline churches' attempts to be all things to all people.

Our major corporations sold their souls to obtain government handouts. None of that is new and it is something you can read in U.S. publications every day. It is just amazing our friends in Russia now sound like Rush Limbaugh.

If the result of turning our lives over to the Feds is that obvious to the Russians why is it so hard for Americans to see the danger in taking federal money? Gov. Rick Perry recognized the dangers and spoke out about it. All federal assistance comes with strings attached and reduces our freedoms. We as a nation are determining what type of country we will be in the 21st century. Are we marching down the road to communism? Maybe we are. However, in our demand to be protected against any kind of pain, we are relinquishing our freedoms in return for security. The more we ask of government the more they have the license to tell us how to live. John Locke wrote every generation remakes their contract with the sovereign. So it is this generation that is making its contract.

I am afraid we are selling our souls for a pledge of security that can never be achieved. Freedom entails risk and accountability. If we ask our government for perfect security we will surrender our privacy; if we ask for economic security we surrender our dreams of making a better life for our children and ourselves. Complete economic equality stifles innovation and excellence. In the past, people in China and Russia had food and shelter under the guidance of the party but no freedom. Now they have the ability to rise or fall based upon their skill and appetite for risk. Now in those countries you have poverty and wealth side by side. In America we have that, now we want rewards with no risk. It cannot happen and never will. Unless we accept that we will surrender our freedom and lose our souls for a utopia that can never exist in this world only in the next, but we won't be allowed to believe in that, either.

We’re not marching. We’re sprinting.

We’re being willingly led on a bullet train. Some are volunteering. And others are bring thrown in front of it.

Some days I feel like someone pushed us out he door of a high flying plane without a parachute. Other days I feel we will win and stomp the bastards in the ground.

Perhaps marching faster to mass secession...and civil war.

“Are we marching toward communism?”

Evidently Tom Leahy isn't a FReeper!

“Are we too far gone?”

Nothing that a few thousand rifles with fixed bayonets couldn't remedy.

We are almost literally hurtling towards disaster. The idiocy of the actions we see from the left in their attempts at power accumulation daily are numbing. Civil War II will be the result once the Democrats attempt the ultimate power grab, a one party state. Will this happen? How could it... we are Americans, they are Americans... right? Unfortunately, that never stopped us before.

The difference between Countries who’s Governments have turned to communism and that of our own is we are a well armed citizenry. Our military will not turn on it’s own. Who would that leave to fight in defense for our tyrannical Government?

After tonight, I haven’t felt this dejected in a long time. I feel so powerless.

At this point, civil war..no. Well, actually not yet. If ACORN/COI/AMERICORPS starts knocking at my door and attempts to enter and confiscate property, then yes, it’s a civil war.

When do we stop worrying about protecting the unity of the US and start to worry about protecting it’s founding ideals?

That’s always an option. We own the guns, after all.

But, we aren’t there yet, and I hope we don’t get to that point.

Their not warning us, their laughing at us as their evil plan appears to be succeeding.

You Texans are always talking about secession!

Don't forget where that adversarial, independent spirit came from, (big grin). T for Texas, T for T........?

Under Ubama, I would call it a sprint.
No matter.

America is dead and gone. What’s left is a land mass populated by cretins and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors and “redistribute” it to them. It is not an America worth defending anymore.

Whatever. I just live here.
Every man for himself.
