Schwarzenegger Threatens Third Furlough Day For State Employees Kevin Yamamura

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to furlough state workers an additional day each month starting in July if lawmakers do not send him a solution for the entire $24 billion budget deficit, he said today.

Schwarzenegger's move would force state workers to take three unpaid days of leave each month, the equivalent of roughly a 14 percent pay cut in all. The governor framed the additional furlough day as an effort to save cash as the state faces the prospect of issuing IOUs starting Thursday.

"It's clear that if the Legislature does not send a full budget solution to my desk by June 30, California will face an extreme cash-flow problem that will threaten our ability to pay for vital services," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

"I cannot force the Legislature to act, so I must do what is in my power as Governor to conserve cash so that the state can continue to operate.

Today I am directing all agencies to prepare to implement a third furlough day for all employees beginning July 1 in the event that no budget solution is in place by that date."

Furlough 98% of them 7 days a week. We won’t know the difference.

Not a threat if I heard right. I hope the ARB and OSHA get it right between the eyes.

Works for me. These people have too much time on their hands anyway. Maybe the dem imbeciles in Sacramento will get the message if the state goes broke (but I doubt it).

The question is, when will it melt down and collapse. I’m really tired of waiting.

Stop funding ‘green’ projects, reduce the amount on the public payroll, stop paying for services to illegal or ‘undocumented’ individuals (espeically if they are unemployed and not doing jobs Americans won’t do).

State and National government of the (union) people, by the (union) people and for the (union) people. Everyone else can pay their taxes and shut up. If you don't obey, ACORN thugs will come calling.

Ahnold should take all the illegals in Cal prisons and turn them over to the feds, who aren't doing their constitutionally mandated job of protecting the border, then abolish bilingual education and stop in-state tuition rates for illegals.

Like this idiot didn’t at least double, possibly triple, the amount of state workers since he took office. Why doesn’t he try firing some in order to save the jobs of others. Happens in the private sector all the time. Why doesn’t he recommend that the legislature stop funding for global warming BS in the state, why doesn’t he admit he was wrong about illegals and stop funding their education, hospital bills and send them back to their respective countries. Those would be good starts.
