When did the lowbrows take over the culture?(The really idiot people are in charge-and we let them)
american thinker ^ | James Lewis

I've been trying to grasp for a truth that is so obvious that all of us know it. But it's not a polite truth, so we don't talk about it. Yet I think it's important to say it out loud, because it is a truth that haunts our national discourse.

As a nation we are under the thumb of idiots. Not just indoctrinated, or wrong-thinking, or power-hungry, or manipulative, or even malevolent people. No, I mean real lowbrows, people who constantly fall for really stupid ideas. Neanderthals. (Look at the Governor of California just running the state budget into the ground. See what I mean? That's not just incompetence. It takes special stupidity, almost a deliberate, willful absence of real thinking.)

The Federal EPA is about to officially declare carbon dioxide to be a pollutant. That's not just false and unscientific; it's not just an excuse for taxing everything in sight, including breathing. It's not merely wrong. It's idiotic. It marks a low point in our national conversation. Scientists or engineers with a grain of sense shouldn't be taking the EPA seriously for a second. Forget the "climate experts," with their grossly inadequate computer models. Normally intelligent people should boggle at the EPA. They are bizarre. Only the truly ignorant could fall for this level of ignorance. Or those who just can't think.

The “low brows” took over because people are seduced by the cult of personality...They like the idea of a “cool, black, dude” running things instead of “old white guys”.

At least 50% of the people have below average intelligence... and they still get to vote.

Funny... my wife thought the president in that movie reminded her of MICHELLE Obama.

Rush Limbaugh has said “I don’t want to take a pay cut”. COWARD I say!!!!!

Not a coward; he just doesn't want to play out of position. The team needs a QB. Rush is a tight end who can block or receive. On defense he is a linebacker who can get to the opposing QB or break up a pass.

But he is not, and has never pretended to be the quarterback. Talented as he is, it would do no good to put him there.

It depends on whether that average of 100 is fixed at a certain knowledge level, or constantly changing to match the current intelligence level of the population.

If it is fixed, at any time in the past,

I’d say that much more than 50% of the people have a below average IQ.

I believe this stems from the continual dumbing down of our society and culture to the lowest common denominator.

JUST LOOK AT WHAT PASSES FOR NEWS ON TV.

JUST LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE TEACHING KIDS IN OUR SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES.

JUST LOOK AT OUR POLITICAL LEADERS.

JUST LOOK AT THE POPULAR MUSIC, RAP AND HIP HOP WHICH OBJECTIFIES WOMEN, DEGRADES THEM, CONDONES AND EVEN PROMOTES DRUGS AND VIOLENCE.

JUST LOOK AT THE MOVIES BEING MADE THAT DENOUNCE RELIGION, FAITH, GOD, PATRIOTISM, LOVE OF COUNTRY, PRIDE IN OUR COUNTRY.

JUST LOOK AT THE ULTRA VIOLENT, SEXIST VIDEO GAMES.

DOES ANYBODY EVEN BOTHER TO READ A BOOK ANYMORE TO LEARN WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM?

DOES ANYBODY CARE ABOUT SOMETHING OTHER THAN THEMSELVES ANYMORE?

Which begs the obvious question: Who is the bigger idiot, those in power or the ones who put them there?

Great analogy to sports, i wasn’t calling Rush a coward so much as I was calling us ALL cowards for letting it get this far down the tubes.

Arnold tried. The legislature would have none of it.

He gave up. Apologized and now is in the same place as Grayout Davis.

The state is ungovernable. Even when the people vote it seems the 9th. circus often overturns the vote at their whim.

Just look what happened in SC. Obambi slyly put the rules into effect. The legislature has the right to overturn the governor if the stimulus money is denied.

It was clear that only red state governors would turn down the dollars so the O cabal did an end run around them. Much as they forced some banks to take TARP dollars.

no, I’d rather Freep or tweet or whatever......;-)
Things are the way they are because we have let them due to our lazyness and lack of leadership. We cry for a leader but we are afraid to lead those around us.

Back when he was still sane, Vincent Bugliosi wrote a book titled, “Outrage” regarding the O.J. Simpson trial fiasco. In it, he delivers a marvelous diatribe about the pervasiveness of incompetence in our society which dovetails nicely with this writer’s thesis.

Okay, now I get it. Unfortunately, leadership these days has to begin at the top for fast action. I ran for state rep in Connecticut in 1996 after Weicker messed things up. Unfortunately, I had Bob Dole getting 28% in my not too liberal district. I did better than that at 32%, but it can get disheartening.

If the quick fix is not available, then you protect your children, and raise them to seize the opportunity when it comes. I moved out of Connecticut after I got married partly for that reason.

I fear, if we want quick action we may have to exercise our 2nd amendment rights.
Can’t help but think with the way gun and ammo sales have been going a lot of other people are thinking the same way.

Our culture is suffering from a form of moral alcoholism.

It started in the 70's when the American public started rationalizing bad, immoral and selfish behavior as a quality. Most states started passing no fault divorce statutes in the 1970's. Soon leaving your family, an act that puts oneself before the family) became acceptable and mainstream.

1973 brought Roe v. Wade where abortion was supposed to be safe but rare. Soon, the culture took an immoral and selfish act and turned it into a badge of honor.

Rationalizing this type of selfishness as a good and honorable thing requires one to set aside logic and clear thinking. There is also a quid pro quo happening where one party says you accept my selfish behavior, such as abortion, and I will accept your bad behavior, such as milking the system for entitlements. So the country started an area where anyone criticizing this selfish and immoral behavior was shouted down with claims of intolerance.

Once a person or a culture begins to rationalize, clear thinking becomes impossible and we get people like Pelosi, Obama, and the modern day Republican party.

Like alcoholism, the country is addicted to a form of me-first-ism; where taking the fruits of another person's labor is considered honorable or selfish acts are not only tolerated but treated as dignified. Just like the drinker - deep down - these people know they are acting in a destructive manner, but cannot bear to face reality and stop their addiction. And just like the alcoholic, this country will not begin to recover until it hits rock bottom.

(The really idiot people are in charge-and we let them)

This might be a clue.
For a couple of years now, I have been trying to determine the accurate name for "government by the ignorant, the incompetent and the criminal" --- all rolled up into one.

The other Thread

And no, we didn't "let" them. When the bottom of the gene pool, the very dregs, have the "right" to vote, the results are preordained. That layer of society are basically criminals, there are many more of them than we would like to think and, yes, they WILL elect their peers.
