Large Democratic Donors Help Shut Down July 4 Atlanta Tea Party
Pajamas Media ^ | June 25, 2009 | Bob Owens

A real estate company whose owners have contributed heavily to Democratic causes apparently used articles and content on conservative blogs to justify bringing about pressure to shut down an Atlanta tea party protest scheduled for the Fourth of July — an event that organizers estimated would attract 20,000 people.

The apparent plot was uncovered when blogger and radio talk show host Andrea Shea King noticed an unusual amount of traffic coming to her site earlier this month.

On Jun 16, Andrea Shea King emailed me, questioning a heavy burst of Sitemeter traffic coming from simon.com. She included screencaps of the traffic, two of which are reproduced below (click to enlarge).

It’s July 4th - so every single place that’s a meeting area is being used.

The folks won’t be just shut down though. Trust me.

Simon Property Group Portfolio (requires javascript)

Sadly, they're based in Indy, owners of the Pacers, and big lib donors.

Declare it as “Tea Party Shoppers Day” and have 20,000 people show up at the mall and just by coincidence, find out that they all have something in common philosophically.

Why just on July 4th??!!! Why not just a tad bit more often?

Me thinks they've miscalculated.

Time to use American ingenuity and get creative. Liberals will not be able to deal with that kind of logic.

Ping to Neal Boortz radio show. I think he’d have something to say.

Do as the Liberals do in this case and that is make loud noises to the point of making an ass out of oneself doing so. Get noticed with noise. Let everybody stand up and be heard on this matter.

I agree with posters advocating to show up and protest regardless of such cancellation.

Fight fire with fire. No whimpering, tucking ones tail between ones legs and scurrying off for cover now. Too much at stake.

Show up anyway...in droves.

Absolutely. In droves!!

It wouldn't hurt to have a little group of picketers show up in front of somebody's house as well - if you know what I mean. Make the well-connected liberal a bit uncomfortable.

Wasn’t it just a little bit presumptuous for a group believing in primacy of private property rights to schedule an event on private property without the owner’s permission?

I’m CERTAIN we will hear Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon talking of the Chill Wind blowing through free speech in this nation...

"It is unfortunate the event had to be canceled," said Julianne Thompson, event co-organizer. She continued, "The old Macy's building is on private property, and not owned by Simon Malls, however the mall manager asked the property owner and I to come in the office on Thursday of this week [June 18], and told us Simon does not want political events on its property. They were also concerned about the fact we were using the term 'protest.' Although the event was on private property, the mall was able to assert authority on the matter due to reciprocal property easement agreements."

Event Co-Chair Debbie Dooley stated, "Our Atlanta Tea Party team tried for the next day and a half to find an alternative location large enough for the event, and with the proper layout for our vendors, children's activities, and fireworks show, but we could not find anything suitable that would have been available on July 4th.

OK, the owner of the property granted Simon the right to control the property. Shouldn’t the owner have the right to contract with whomever it wanted?

I say screw them and show up anyway! If the Iranians can put their lives on the line we can risk a small chance at a night in jail.
