Palin hits back at 'malicious' photo Posted: 10:22 AM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) – A week after a high-profile uproar with comedian David Letterman over the late-night host's joke about her daughter, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is again sharply responding to the appearance of her children in the public sphere.

Palin's latest response comes after liberal Alaskan Blogger Linda Kellen Biegel doctored a photograph of the former Republican gPresidential candidate with her 1-year-old son Trig, who suffers from Down Syndrome.

Biegel, who blogs in support of the Alaska Democratic Party under the name "Celtic Diva," superimposed a picture of conservative Alaskan radio host Eddie Burke over Trig's face in an apparent effort to show how close the radio host is with the Alaskan governor.

"Recently we learned of a malicious desecration of a photo of the Governor and baby Trig that has become an iconic representation of a mother's love for a special needs child," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapelton said in a statement provided to CNN. "The mere idea of someone doctoring the photo of a special needs baby is appalling."

Stapelton also suggested President Obama should speak out against such behavior from liberal activists.

"Babies and children are off limits," She said. "It is past time to restore decency in politics and real tolerance for all Americans. The Obama Administration sets the moral compass for its party. We ask that special needs children be loved, respected and accepted and that this type of degeneracy be condemned."

Aside from being malicious, this is an attempt to get Sarah Palin flustered and labled a crank.

I am afraid you are quite correct.

My thoughts on Gov. Palin are a matter of record. She really needs to pick her battles more wisely. She is a sitting Governor. Have a little class about yourself (as my students would say)

Like Letterman, the blogger who posted this photo (which I haven't seen) would not have the attention of a wider audience had Gov. Palin not become so personally involved. You cannot purge the Internet from every idiot who posts online (Lucky for me! :)

Here's the response I would like hear: "I haven't seen the photo (heard that joke) I am far too busy working on (insert latest project of substance)to look at (listen to) that sort of thing. I'm happy to grant interviews discussing (project of substance)"

I didn’t think they had found a church since leaving Rev Wright’s flock.

The point remains. They were probabaly still traumatized by the statism being preached.

What a cutie. When the Palin'ss love on their baby boy/brother they are loving on a Saint. These souls, of Down Syndrome people, are completely free from the concupiscence that plague so called ‘normal’ people. They are incapable of sinning through their own fault and their souls will be in heaven the instant their earthly body dies. To be blessed with the privilege of raising such a child is not unlike that of the Holy Family themselves in being graced in raising the child Jesus.

We can learn much from them; all we need to do is pay attention.

It may well be that little Trig Palin and his affect on those who see him and his family's love for him and for what he radiates back to them is part of God's plan to reverse the course of the abortion culture of death we have built, or has been built around us.

Actually, no, I wasn't aware of that.

However, it doesn't change my thoughts about this.

The comments on the CNN forum are quite revealing.

1. Sarah brought this on herself for showing Trig in public

2. She should get a thicker skin when her family is lampooned

3. The Democrats are only doing what Rush did to Chelsea

Sarah made a conscious decision to carry Trig to term, despite the fact that he was a Down Syndrome baby. She has shown love for him since. She shows him in public to give strength to others who are having to make the decision of aborting a baby with Downs or bringing them to full term. And she is showing these children can bring joy to your life.

I’m not sure what the left would like for her to have done differently. I guess butchering the unborn would be preferable. I guess abandoning the child would be preferable. I guess slamming anyone for having such a child would be preferable.

The party of peace and love, certainly is heartless when it comes to the children of Conservatives.

Jokes are made about a 14 year old child being raped and a victim of pedophilia. A photo of an innocent child with Downs Syndrome is fair game for lampooning.

What mother would appreciate this, public or private? What type of mother would it be, if they didn’t care at all about this?

As for Rush Limbaugh, the guy never made comments at Chelsea’s expense during her childhood years. And if he did, it wouldn’t make it right for others to do it to someone else.

The left is as morally bankrupt as a group of humans can be.

What I said is that name calling and throwing mud is a rat tactic. If someone were to photoshop pictures of her it brings them down to her level (somewhat). Look at Governor Palins response...that is class. She didn’t call the Dem a pig, ugly, fat, or any other names. She didn’t release a counter photoshopped picture of her either. If it makes you feel better to roll around in the mud with this woman have a great time but it isn’t a solution to the problem. She loves that she pissed you off, it was her entire goal.

Typical ugly all the way through democrat political operative. Sadly, more than fifty percent of American voters are at her level of ugly in the soul so her slime resonates with them.

So you think jokes of rape and pedophilia of 14 year old girls, and lampooning of Downs Syndrome babies is okay, their mothers shouldn’t object to this at all.

Good grief!

I’m a Palin supporter, but I’ve got to agree with you both. It’s a crudely made political-cartoon-like statement, not a commentary or attack on Trig.

Palin comes off as thin-skinned and as if she’s hiding behind her kids. I understand the Palins’ pent-up desire to fight back, but this sort of focus gives them the wrong kind of publicity—on several levels.

I know only he/she took it hard that we were talking about the Pig Lady...I told her/him that..And also seemed the comments went to me and one other poster that others were commenting to..like we were getting the attention and more people were reading what we were saying..so she/he wanted to put us down to make us look bad..It did not work as you see.

I wasn't "putting anyone down" and I wasn't defending the Dem's actions. I stated, repeatedly, that expressed hatred, desire for violence, and comments based on her looks, not only doesn't help, it both makes the people doing it look cheap and seriously detracts from the issue. What should be focused on is exposing this person record of lies and distortions and outright nasty behavior. Find what her connections are, who her political allies are, display her behavior for the world to see. Slinging mud back at her will allow her to play victim which Dems do better then anyone, and Governor Palin can't do if her advocates are behaving in the same manor. For heavens sake take the highroad.

No, I don't certainly do not think it is Ok. What I do think is that Gov. Palin is letting the stupidity and viciousness of the Left define her.

Something like this, and the Letterman “joke”, needed exactly the responses that have been given. She didn’t appear flustered or angry she simply pointed out what was wrong with both. You can’t simply let things go without a response. It’s far too passive behavior for someone in an executive position.

There’s an old Public Relations saying, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” But, I do think that there is certainly wrong publicity. I agree with you, this is not good publicity.

I'm series.

Is THIS is picture that is under discussion? It can't be. This is political satire. Very similar to the old fashioned picture posted elsewhere on this thread.

Could someone please post the offending pic, or give me a link (short of actually visiting CNN or the Celtic Diva's blog)

Of course, I've never let ignorance of a given topic stop me from spouting off before...

No, that’s not it. That one’s actually well done and funny. Although it may overestimate Dave’s brainpower.

We can learn much from them; all we need to do is pay attention.

A month or so ago my daughter had her dance recital. It was an hour and a half performance with all ages from 4 year olds dancing to "The Good Ship Lolly-pop" to professionals performing amazing feats of grace, balance and strength.

The show was stolen by the five and six year olds dancing to "Edelweiss." In the middle was a beautiful little girl with Down Syndrome. After much searching the mom had found a school that would teach her daughter. The joy and trust on her face as she danced on the big stage in front of hundreds spoke more about how precious life is than any poet, orator or scholar in history.
