Obama, the African Colonial
American Thinker ^ | June 25, 2009 | L.E. Ikenga

Posted on 06/24/2009 10:54:57 PM PDT by neverdem

Had Americans been able to stop obsessing over the color of Barack Obama's skin and instead paid more attention to his cultural identity, maybe he would not be in the White House today. The key to understanding him lies with his identification with his father, and his adoption of a cultural and political mindset rooted in postcolonial Africa.

Like many educated intellectuals in postcolonial Africa, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was enraged at the transformation of his native land by its colonial conqueror. But instead of embracing the traditional values of his own tribal cultural past, he embraced an imported Western ideology, Marxism. I call such frustrated and angry modern Africans who embrace various foreign "isms", instead of looking homeward for repair of societies that are broken, African Colonials. They are Africans who serve foreign ideas.

The tropes of America's racial history as a way of understanding all things black are useless in understanding the man who got his dreams from his father, a Kenyan exemplar of the African Colonial.

Before I continue, I need to say this: I am a first generation born West African-American woman whose parents emigrated to the U.S. in the 1970's from the country now called Nigeria. I travel to Nigeria frequently. I see myself as both a proud American and as a proud Igbo (the tribe that we come from -- also sometimes spelled Ibo). Politically, I have always been conservative (though it took this past election for me to commit to this once and for all!); my conservative values come from my Igbo heritage and my place of birth. Of course, none of this qualifies me to say what I am about to -- but at the same time it does.

My friends, despite what CNN and the rest are telling you, Barack Obama is nothing more than an old school African Colonial who is on his way to turning this country into one of the developing nations that you learn about on the National Geographic Channel. Many conservative (East, West, South, North) African-Americans like myself -- those of us who know our history -- have seen this movie before. Here are two main reasons why many Americans allowed Obama to slip through the cracks despite all of his glaring inconsistencies:

First, Obama has been living on American soil for most of his adult life. Therefore, he has been able to masquerade as one who understands and believes in American democratic ideals. But he does not. Barack Obama is intrinsically undemocratic and as his presidency plays out, this will become more obvious. Second, and most importantly, too many Americans know very little about Africa. The one-size-fits-all understanding that many Americans (both black and white) continue to have of Africa might end up bringing dire consequences for this country.

Contrary to the way it continues to be portrayed in mainstream Western culture, Africa is not a continent that can be solely defined by AIDS, ethnic rivalries, poverty and safaris. Africa, like any other continent, has an immense history defined by much diversity and complexity. Africa's long-standing relationship with Europe speaks especially to some of these complexities -- particularly the relationship that has existed between the two continents over the past two centuries. Europe's complete colonization of Africa during the nineteenth century, also known as the Scramble for Africa, produced many unfortunate consequences, the African colonial being one of them.

The African colonial (AC) is a person who by means of their birth or lineage has a direct connection with Africa. However, unlike Africans like me, their worldviews have been largely shaped not by the indigenous beliefs of a specific African tribe but by the ideals of the European imperialism that overwhelmed and dominated Africa during the colonial period. AC's have no real regard for their specific African traditions or histories.  AC's use aspects of their African culture as one would use pieces of costume jewelry: things of little or no value that can be thoughtlessly discarded when they become a negative distraction, or used on a whim to decorate oneself in order to seem exotic. (Hint: Obama's Muslim heritage).

On the other hand, AC's strive to be the best at the culture that they inherited from Europe. Throughout the West, they are tops in their professions as lawyers, doctors, engineers, Ivy League professors and business moguls; this is all well and good. It's when they decide to engage us as politicians that things become messy and convoluted.

The African colonial politician (ACP) feigns repulsion towards the hegemonic paradigms of Western civilization. But at the same time, he is completely enamored of the trappings of its aristocracy or elite culture. The ACP blames and caricatures whitey to no end for all that has gone wrong in the world. He convinces the masses that various forms of African socialism are the best way for redressing the problems that European colonialism motivated in Africa. However, as opposed to really being a hard-core African Leftist who actually believes in something, the ACP uses socialist themes as a way to disguise his true ambitions: a complete power grab whereby the "will of the people" becomes completely irrelevant.

Barack Obama is all of the above. The only difference is that he is here playing (colonial) African politics as usual.

In his 1995 memoir, Dreams From My Father -- an eloquent piece of political propaganda -- Obama styles himself as a misunderstood intellectual who is deeply affected by the sufferings of black people, especially in America and Africa. In the book, Obama clearly sees himself as an African, not as a black American. And to prove this, he goes on a quest to understand his Kenyan roots. He is extremely thoughtful of his deceased father's legacy; this provides the main clue for understanding Barack Obama.

Barack Obama Sr. was an African colonial to the core; in his case, the apple did not fall far from the tree. All of the telltale signs of Obama's African colonialist attitudes are on full display in the book -- from his feigned antipathy towards Europeans to his view of African tribal associations as distracting elements that get in the way of "progress".  (On p. 308 of Dreams From My Father, Obama says that African tribes should be viewed as an "ancient loyalties".)

Like imperialists of Old World Europe, the ACP sees their constituents not as free thinking individuals who best know how to go about achieving and creating their own means for success. Instead, the ACP sees his constituents as a flock of ignorant sheep that need to be led -- oftentimes to their own slaughter.

Like the European imperialist who spawned him, the ACP is a destroyer of all forms of democracy.

Here are a few examples of what the British did in order to create (in 1914) what is now called Nigeria and what Obama is doing to you

  1. Convince the people that "clinging" to any aspect of their cultural (tribal) identity or history is bad and regresses the process of "unity". British Imperialists deeply feared people who were loyal to anything other than the state. "Tribalism" made the imperialists have to work harder to get people to just fall in line. Imperialists pitted tribes against each other in order to create chaos that they then blamed on ethnic rivalry. Today many "educated" Nigerians, having believed that their traditions were irrelevant, remain completely ignorant of their ancestry and the history of their own tribes.
  2. Confiscate the wealth and resources of the area that you govern by any means necessary in order to redistribute wealth. The British used this tactic to present themselves as empathetic and benevolent leaders who wanted everyone to have a "fair shake". Imperialists are not interested in equality for all. They are interested in controlling all.
  3. Convince the masses that your upper-crust university education naturally puts you on an intellectual plane from which to understand everything even when you understand nothing. Imperialists were able to convince the people that their elite university educations allowed them to understand what Africa needed. Many of today's Nigerians-having followed that lead-hold all sorts of degrees and certificates-but what good are they if you can't find a job?
  4. Lie to the people and tell them that progress is being made even though things are clearly becoming worse.  One thing that the British forgot to mention to their Nigerian constituents was that one day, the resources that were being used to engineer "progress" (which the British had confiscated from the Africans to begin with!) would eventually run out. After WWII, Western Europe could no longer afford to hold on to their African colonies. So all of the counterfeit countries that the Europeans created were then left high-and-dry to fend for themselves. This was the main reason behind the African independence movements of the1950 and 60's. What will a post-Obama America look like?
  5. Use every available media outlet to perpetuate the belief that you and your followers are the enlightened ones-and that those who refuse to support you are just barbaric, uncivilized, ignorant curmudgeons.  This speaks for itself.

America, don't be fooled. The Igbos were once made up of a confederacy of clans that ascribed to various forms of democratic government. They took their eyes off the ball and before they knew it, the British were upon them. Also, understand this: the African colonial who is given too much political power can only become one thing: a despot.

...However, it is important to note here the modern tie-in — Oprah is a devotee of Maya Angelou (I would suspect it’s like a mother-daughter relationship in many ways). AND, we all know how exciting Obama’s candidacy and presidency is for Oprah. There are probably even more tie-ins via the women of ALL of these men in question as well.

an unbroken chain...

For most of its history Seattle was a segregated city, as committed to white supremacy as any location in America. People of color were excluded from most jobs, most neighborhoods and schools, and many stores, restaurants, hotels, and other commercial establishments, even hospitals. As in other western states, the system of severe racial discrimination in Seattle targeted not just African Americans but also Native Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, people of Mexican ancestry, and also, at times, Jews.

I lived near Seattle for 5 years in the mid 1980s. Lots of Asians, white majority, blacks were RARE!

Did Stanley Ann Dunham Obama? Soetoro name her daughter after Maya Angelou? Perhaps those paths did, indeed, cross in Africa in 1961.

There's a comment I made on another thread a while ago...that might fit well right here.

It was written as the result of this short observation made by another Freeper, who wrote:

... Obama and Ayers seem to have shared the same library in any case. Both talk of reading the books of Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Dubois...

to which I replied:

There we go again, it all starts with DuBois, mentor to Paul Robeson who was instrumental in Frank Marshall Davis going to Hawaii; finds its way to Ghana where DuBois was visited by Paul Robeson and Malcolm X, and living in that expat African-American community was Maya Angelou, good friend of James Baldwin who tried to write a screenplay of the life of Malcolm X...William Ayres with his door plastered with Malcolm X images, writes 'Dreams' for Obama, whose 'father' was employed by Mboya, the Luo, educated in England, who In 1958 attended a convention of African nationalists at Accra, Ghana...came to the US in 1959, the same year that Oginga Odinga also came to the US and was embraced by Malcolm X - the same year btw, that Obama Senior landed in Hawaii. Oginga Odinga, father of Raila Odinga for whom Obama campaigned...

Is that enough to start one thinking that maybe Malcolm X knew Obama Snr before the 'student from Kenya' showed up in Hawaii, or maybe there's a reason Stanley Ann Dunham named her daughter Maya?

----sorta-tongue-in-cheek.

As for Langston Hughes, I haven't researched that connection. Yet. And I left out Harry Belafonte!

Never thought of that. They were definitely players in a significant group of Socialists/Communists with many interesting connections... I’ll have to find the book I read now. As I said, there were a lot of names and dates.

Fred, the biography you linked to for Maya Angelou has some things out of order when compared with Angelou’s accounts in her book (I think the one I have is “A Woman’s Heart”) and it starts with her son and her living in California, and then moving to Harlem, and includes the time period when she was living in Cairo, and Ghana. She joined the Writer’s Group, and was very active in the “Civil Rights Movement” as well as being a very strong supporter of the Cuban Revolution. It also mentions her meeting Farrakhan, and interestingly — at least up until the point I stopped reading she did not mention Malcolm X. This all started (the Writing Group/Cuba/Farrakhan) BEFORE she met Make and married him, IIRC. It’s been a while since I read the book though so, I could be wrong...

[Now, you’ve given me a reason to find the dang book and force myself through the rest of it though! LOL — I’ll post any pertinent info. and dates and such. As I said, some of that bio seems “out of order”.]

that's why I posted excerpts and links from/for both. I've never read an autobiography that tells the whole truth, have you?

And if Maya knows something she shouldn't tell, she would hardly tell us! The interest lies primarilly in the connections. And she was, as the title of this post suggests, a typical AFRICAN COLONIAL. They wanted all the best positions, expected special treatment; the indigenous people under the thumb of their marxist rulers, despised the expats.

When things got tough, when Nkrumah ruined the economy and was thrown out - burned in efigy! - most of them high-tailed it back to the US.

A HEART FOR ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE

The State of Israel, as the country is officially known is a tiny country, with only six million inhabitants. It is surrounded by 22 Arab countries, with 300 million people. Their combined land area is greater than that of all of Europe. Israel covers an area of 20,330 sq km; which is less that 10% of the size of my beloved country Ghana.

~SNIP

Some of the major areas of cooperation between Ghana and Israel countries during this period included shipping, construction, agriculture, labour issues, manpower training, science and medicine, security matters and culture.

Israel, with help from India, supervised the establishment of the Ghanaian Air Force in April 1959. A small Israeli team also trained aircraft maintenance personnel and radio technicians at the Accra-based Air Force Training School. Ghanaian pilots also received some training at aviation schools in Israel. Israel helped Ghana set up its Black Star Line company and trained its police force, doctors, dentists and veterinarians. In the area of sanitation the Israelis started a central sewage system in Accra.

The good relationship between Ghana and Israel notwithstanding it is on record that the leaders of the two countries had different views as to the direction Ghana should take to develop. Golda Meier, for example, thought Nkrumah was turning himself into a demigod by encouraging the sculpturing of his statues and minting coins bearing his effigy.

The special relations between Ghana and Israel received its first major jolt long before the OAU boycott in 1973. During the January 1961 Non-Aligned Conference in Casablanca Nkrumah signed a resolution promoted by Nasser "singling out Israel as the pillar of imperialism in Africa." That notwithstanding Israel continued its development aid to Ghana essentially until 1973 - when, in the wake of the Yom Kippur War, Accra and the rest of black Africa succumbing to Arab pressure and desires broke ties with Israel.

...Nkrumah's career after independence combined an international and a domestic role. At the international level he was he most important African nationalist leader of his generation and was inspirational throughout Africa. He was the leading supporter of pan-African unity and worked tirelessly, but ultimately unsuccessfully, to bring about the political union of the emerging states of Africa. Domestically his rule was predominantly negative.

He inherited one of the strongest economies in Africa but by the time he lost power Ghana was plunging towards economic collapse as a result of the inefficiency and corruption of its, predominantly state-run, economic enterprises. His regime became increasingly authoritarian. As early as 1958 he introduced a preventative detention act which allowed for arrest without charge and imprisonment without trial. Potential centres of opposition including the trade unions, the judiciary, and the universities were brought under tight government control and the media was rigidly censored. In 1964 he declared a single-party state and installed himself as "President for Life". His self-granted titles included "the redeemer" and "the initiator of the African personality". He is credited with writing a large number of books but most (if not all) were ghost-written for him by his acolytes.

In 1966 he was overthrown by a military coup d'état whilst he was attending a meeting in Beijing. At the invitation of his close friend President Sekou Toure he went into exile in Guinea and subsequently died of cancer in a Romanian hospital in 1972. His international reputation and prominence greatly outstripped his domestic political performance.

No good deed goes unpunished. Nkrumah becomes a despot, ruins the economy, influenced by Du Bois...having given all the best jobs in Ghana to African-American muslims - many with Black Panther links - in 1961 Nkrumah signed a resolution promoted by Nasser "singling out Israel as the pillar of imperialism in Africa...

When Nkrumah was finally deposed, citizens of Ghana burned him in efigy, declaring 'WE ARE FREE!'

Yet he remains a HERO in African-American eyes. HE received credit for establishing the ISRAELI REGISTERED BLACK STAR SHIPPING LINE.

African-American history lives in the parallel universe of Karl Marx. What is Pan Africanism other than AFRICAN COLONIALISM driven by islamic interest?

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Rev. Wright’s theological degrees are all about Africa, and Islam! The whole thing stinks to high heaven, and most people in this country don’t have a CLUE as to what these people are really up to, or even who they are — and they are the ones “in control” of our country!

Sorta tongue-in-cheek, but also sorta compelling....

So, we have DuBois and Angelou in Cairo 1961 before they go to Ghana. We have visits and ties between them and Malcolm X and various others of the cast of characters, many in Egypt (or United Arab Republic at the time). An international port, big ships . . .

Then Angelou refers to the deeper friendship she formed with X in Ghana as like brother and sister.

Malcolm’s high-level connections within Islam, including the Saudis, Barry’s unexplained financial aid throughout his life — somebody’s looking out for him. That astonishing resemblance. And Stanley Ann names her daughter Maya.

Anyone looked at hospital records in Cairo, 1961?

Like you said, sorta tongue-in-cheek.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Rev. Wright’s theological degrees are all about Africa, and Islam!

Or that the 'Saints' in his 'church' are Marcus Garvey and MalcolmX.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven, and most people in this country don’t have a CLUE as to what these people are really up to, or even who they are —

Or how far back it all goes...

and they are the ones “in control” of our country!

Now I am beginning to understand that remark obama made in his speech in Cairo (IIRC) when he said that the US was 'one of the largest muslim countries in the world' -if you add muslim immigrants to the African-American-Muslims, you reach double figures in the millions, and that qualifies.

MALCOLM X's GREAT REGRET

She touched his life, but he never knew her name

In his movie Malcolm X, Spike Lee depicts--but sadly undermines--an incident that significantly impacted the slain former leader of the Nation of Islam. In the barely three-second shot, Malcolm X (Denzel Washington), having just delivered a fiery college speech, is leaving the stage when a white female student momentarily blocks his path and asks what she, as a white person, can do to help improve racial relations. Malcolm tersely answers with one word--"Nothing"--and passes her by.

It is unfortunate that Spike Lee didn't, or couldn't, represent the full impact the incident that inspired this shot had on Malcolm X. Let's take a look at how deeply affected he was, in real life, by the white college student he rebuffed when she sought his advice.

Several times in his autobiography, Malcolm X brings up the encounter he had with "one little blonde co-ed" who stepped in, then out, of his life not long after hearing him speak at her New England college. "I'd never seen anyone I ever spoke before more affected than this little white girl," he wrote (p. 286). So greatly did this speech affect the young woman that she actually flew to New York and tracked him down inside a Muslim restaurant he frequented in Harlem. "Her clothes, her carriage, her accent," he wrote, "all showed Deep South breeding and money." After introducing herself, she confronted Malcolm and his associates with this question: "Don't you believe there are any good white people?" He said to her: "People's deeds I believe in, Miss, not their words."

She then exclaimed: "What can I do?" Malcolm said: "Nothing." A moment later she burst into tears, ran out and along Lenox Avenue, and disappeared by taxi into the world.

Then a young firebrand, Malcolm X railed against all white people, including "white liberals" who sought to integrate themselves in the struggles of black people. Add white cream to black coffee, he analogized, and you weaken it. But as he grew older, and especially after his life-transforming trip to Mecca, Malcolm abandoned such separatist views. In a later chapter, he wrote: "I regret that I told her she could do 'nothing.' I wish now that I knew her name, or where I could telephone her, and tell her what I tell white people now when they present themselves as being sincere, and ask me, one way or another, the same thing that she asked." (376)

Alex Haley, in the autobiography's epilogue (Malcolm X had since been assassinated), recounted a statement Malcolm made to Gordon Parks that revealed how affected he was by his encounter with the blonde coed: "Well, I've lived to regret that incident. In many parts of the African continent I saw white students helping black people. Something like this kills a lot of argument. . . . I guess a man's entitled to make a fool of himself if he's ready to pay the cost. It cost me twelve years" (429).

Malcolm X realized, too late, that there was plenty this "little blonde coed" could have done, that his response to her was inconsistent with what he, his associates, and all black people wanted to accomplish. Unfortunately, the three-hour movie fails to reveal the full significance of this incident in his life. That young lady from the Deep South certainly left quite an impression on Malcolm X.

Jarrett’s claim to fame is that he was a partisan of the cause of African Americans in the broad democratic tradition of Paul Robeson and W.E.B. DuBois...

Incidentally Robeson and DuBois were both Communist Party members. On April 9th, 1998 at Chicago's South Shore Cultural Center Jarrett hosted a Paul Robeson Citywide Centennial Celebration event with his old comrade Margaret Burroughs and former Communist Party members Studs Terkel and Oscar Brown jnr.

Indeed, Vernon Jarrett's legacy is far from forgotten. Much of it lives on in the work of his daughter-in-law Valerie Jarrett.

Another former Harold Washington staffer, Valerie Jarrett is a close friend of both Barack and Michelle Obama.

Jarrett met Barack Obama when she hired Michelle to work with her in Mayor Daley’s City Hall. Valerie Jarrett ran the finances for Obama’s 2004 Senate bid and served as treasurer of Obama's HOPEFUND.

The Last Letter from W.E.B. DuBois

To his daughter, excerpt:

I am sure word has gotten to you about my patriotism and my intent on joining the Communist party. The possibility has been salient in my mind since my travels to Russia and the wonders I see here abroad. I have been met with great applause and, despite my ailments, many have sought to engage me in debate. Shirley and I met with President Khrushchev for dinner a month ago and he was greatly interested in my thoughts on how a communist movement could benefit the world, and not just the Negro peoples. I recalled my conversation with him years earlier and how he met me with great celebration in Red Square.

SOURCE

DuBois, however, wrote his own last will and testament someyears earlier. In his posthumously published Autobiography, subtitled "A Soliloquy on Viewing My Life from the Last Decade of Its First Century" he wrote, "I have studied communism long and carefully in lands where they are practiced and in conversation with their adherents, and with wide reading. I now state my conclusion frankly and clearly:

I believe in communism." He declared, "I shall therefore hereafter help the triumph of communism in every honest way that I can...I know well that the triumph of communism will be a slow and difficult task, involving mistakes of every sort. It will call for progressive change in human nature and a better type of manhood than is common today. I believe this possible, or otherwise we will continue to lie, steal and kill as we are doing today." The path he traveled to arrive at this conclusion was complex, often contradictory, yet filled with profound meaning...
