*Welcome to the FReeper Canteen*

Summertime Memories

Running through a lawn sprinkler getting soaked on a hot summer day

Endless games of hide 'n seek which went on as late as our neighborhood group could get away with and the parents called us home

Campfire Girl summer camp with the bugle wake-up call every morning

Hot dogs from the grill with lots of mustard

Cicadas singing all night long... the next morning their empty shells on the tree

A cold, sweet snow cone..with the inevitable dribbles on the chin

Swimming holes, creeks, and lakes.

Chiggers and fireflies lighting up the night

What are some of your favorite memories of summer?

The Parent Trap with Haley Mills and Brian Keith. My Brother and I in the back seat eating popcorn drinking kool-aid from home and sound asleep after the 1st feature (Parent Trap) the came a grown up feature for Mom & Dad.

Once in high school drive ins were for other things; wink-wink, nudge-nedge.

Great idea, Sandy!

Let’s see - the summer between Junior and Senior years in High School was spent working at a Church Camp under the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. That may have been one of the best summers of my life.

I remember hard work digging ditches for water lines to new cabins; re-stringing wire to repair fences; pouring a porch for a cabin; making trash runs to the dump and watching the bears; walking 3 miles top Kohl’s Ranch once a month for a special dinner; fishing in Tonto Creek; and scaring the campers with stories of the fabled Mogollon Monster who liked to eat wayward Boy Scouts.

The smell of a sun-warmed pine tree takes me back to that summer instantaneously.

“We sat and played monopoly for hours and hours.”

We did too. And some of the games would last for a couple of days or more!

Yeah, we played statues, too. And chased fireflies. Our grandparents had a huge front yard that all the neighborhood kids played in during those warm summer nights.

Shoot what was I gonna say?

Oh yeah, one of Nana’s summer memories...her middle sister (the mean one!) chasing them around with shed locust skins stuck on her fingers...like long claws. She loved to tease her sisters.

Thanks...my #1 prayer right now is that whatever needs to happen to get her off the ventilator, and awake, happens, and soon.

Dear God,
We place our worries in Your hands.
We ask that You restore Your servant to health again.
Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and
to know that whatsoever You do, You do for the love of us.
Amen.
