UK:

No school closures planned to prevent swine flu spread

Last updated 21 August 2009
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/interactive/news/theme_news_detail.php?id=19324192&tab_id=116

The government does not expect to order widespread school closures to prevent the spread of swine flu this autumn.

Despite a lull in the number of new cases, it had been speculated that the new school term could be put back to avoid the H1N1 virus regrouping.

The government’s chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson told journalists on Thursday that a second wave of the virus is expected, but that automatic school closures are not the best course of action.

‘We can’t be sure that the schools closing [for summer] are the only reason for the reduction [in cases]; we saw a peak in Scotland after they closed,’ he revealed.

It has also been revealed that the number of new cases has slowed over the past week, with 11,000 reported in the last seven days.

The number of consultations with GPs is also falling, with most cases still mild and no signs of the virus changing.

Sir Liam did explain however that local school closures could be ordered on an ‘as and when’ basis.

In the 1950s a flu pandemic was made worse by schoolchildren starting their autumn term, but in the 1960s it was not exacerbated until Christmas.

It was also revealed today that 54 people have died from swine flu since its outbreak, although most had severe underlying medical problems.

“Latin America on new A/H1N1 flu alert after Colombian president falls victim “
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-08/31/content_11971070.htm
“MEXICO CITY, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was confirmed on Sunday to have been infected with the A/H1N1 influenza, the second Latin American leader to fall victim to the virus following Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sanchez . “...

...”Latin American nations sound the alarm again since new deaths from the virus were reported and more cases were confirmed.

Mexican Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova on Friday warned that “we predict the number of infections will rise to 1 million this winter,” after announcing five new deaths from the virus, bringing the toll to 184.
About 80 to 100 cases were reported daily across Mexico in “a very stable phase,” Cordova said. The current number of confirmed cases was 21, 264.
Cordova said authorities have drawn up plans to confront a possible surge in cases in winter, including more school closures in most affected areas. “...

...”Nicaragua has reactivated its A/H1N1 emergency plan less than a month after it ended due to a re-outbreak of the influenza pandemic.
President Daniel Ortega decreed on Thursday a return to the sanitary emergency plan, which would last 70 days, and under which

Flu hits hard at Pius X, 170 out sick (Lincoln Nebraska)

By the Lincoln Journal Star | Posted: Tuesday, September 1, 2009 1:35 pm

Influenza is sweeping through Pius X High School, with 170 students out sick Tuesday morning.

“We have a lot of fevers and sore throats,” said Principal Tom Korta.

More than a dozen parents have called back to say their students have confirmed cases of the flu.

At least one parent said her child had Influenza A. The office staff hasn’t been asking if it’s the H1N1 virus, but they’re assuming it is, he said.

“We definitely have influenza and we’re treating it like it’s H1N1.”

Office staff started tracking absences Monday after noticing an unusually large number of students were calling in sick.

The count by the end of Monday: 106 students.

During a typical flu season, Pius may have 100 kids absent, but never this many this early in the year, Korta said.

“Certainly for this time of year it’s unprecedented,” he said. “During the flu season in the past it’s hit high numbers. I’m not sure this high.”

School officials set up a separate room for students with a registered nurse for students suffering flu-like symptoms at school.

They’re asking students to go there, rather than stopping in the office first, Korta said.

School officials also plan to send a letter to parents Tuesday educating them about ways to prevent the spread of viruses, he said.

First-period teachers read a statement to students reminding them of preventative measures such as frequent hand-washing and covering their mouths and noses when they sneeze.

They are advising parents to keep kids home until they’ve been fever-free for 24 hours.

Students have been complaining of symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. Some also have reported diarrhea and vomiting.

Korta said he’s called the Lancaster County Health Department and is following advice on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site.

Those recommendations include not canceling school or activities.

“It’s an interesting start to the year,” he said.

US Pediatric Deaths Raise Pandemic Concerns
Recombinomics Commentary 02:07
September 4, 2009

http://www.recombinomics.com/News/09040901/US_Pediatric_Deaths.html

Arizona (six cases), California (three), Connecticut (one), Florida (one) , Illinois (two), Massachusetts (one), Minnesota (two), New Jersey (three), New York (four), New York City (four), Oregon (one), Rhode Island (one), Texas (two), Utah (three), and Wisconsin (two).

The above list of locations of the 36 pediatric deaths in the United States described in tomorrows MMWR highlight the differences between these earlier cases and those12 who have died in the past 2 weeks, which were largely in the south where school began in early August. Many of the earlier cases had severe underlying conditions, but the number of infections in children during that time period was relatively low because the levels of H1N1 began to rise near the end of the school year. Although there were reports of outbreaks in summer camps, the number of cases have exploded among students returning to school for the current season.

These outbreaks were most dramatic in the south (see map) and schools with absentee rates above 10% were common. Moreover, several school districts (see map) have closed when rates rose to 20-40%. Additional schools remaned open, and now similar rates are being seen further north, like the 44% of 6th graders at a school in suburban Pittsburgh (see map).

The student fatalities are at public schools and there is no indication of underlying conditions. One student began feeling ill on Friday, played soccer of Saturday, and died on Monday. This short interval between disease onset and death has been described for several students.

Thus, these cases make tomorrow’s report obsolete prior to publication. A similar analysis of students dying during the current school year should be underway.

Results from that report are eagerly anticipated.

Regarding the H1N1 virus and the coming “mandatory” vaccine:

From Mercola.com
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/09/19/The-Truth-about-the-Flu-Shot.aspx

“What are the Virologists Saying?

Virologists are scientists who study viruses — their classification, their genetics, methods of spread and their ability to cause disease. No one knows more about this virus than the virologists.

The British science magazine, The New Scientist, recently polled 60 virologists to get their opinion. These are the results of specific questions:

Will the virulent version of the virus appear?

*

Extremely likely-————————none
*

Likely——————————————5
*

A 50/50 chance-———————— 14
*

Possible————————————— 38
*

Not at all—————————————3

What the virologists are doing personally

*

Stock Tamiflu or Relinza-————————14
*

Stock above plus antibiotics-—————— 6
*

Stock food, water and power source——5
*

Get pneumococcal vaccine-———————3
*

Nothing—————————————————— 30
*

Hand washing, mask, etc-——————— 3

Notice there was no mention of taking the swine flu vaccine.

Behind the push to vaccinate the entire population are the pharmaceutical makers of the vaccines, who are working in conjunction with the government to make the vaccine mandatory.

Homeland security and FEMA are pushing for forced vaccinations and the medical experts, virologists and epidemiologists are calling for calm and resorting to voluntary vaccination only. The former have links with the vaccine manufacturers via political contacts. A great deal of money will be made by the manufacturers, should forced vaccinations be mandated.

Will This Vaccine Be Tested?

According to Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, 5 tests are planned. It is not clear as to the use of the squalene adjuvants, ASO3 and MF-59.

Because of concerns raised, the FDA is now hedging. Independent studies of squalene used as a vaccine adjuvant indicates that it is associated with a very high incidence of autoimmune diseases, such as an MS-like neurological syndrome, rheumatoid joint disease and especially Lupus.

The developer of MF-59 is Chiron pharmaceuticals, which was purchased by Novartis pharmaceutical company, who will be the main supplier of the swine flu vaccine for the world. According to Dr. Fauci, testing in both children and adults will be without this adjuvant and he admits that we have no data on the safety in children.(See Nature Vol 460/30 July 2009, p 562 for the interview.)

There are 5 tests scheduled for safety before mass vaccinations will resume. I looked up on clinicaltrials.gov the actual studies being done. It is instructive to note that the only studies actually being done do not contain any adjuvant (the immune booster) either for babies or adults. Yet, when the mass vaccinations begin, the vaccines will have adjuvant added, possibly squalene.

The real irony here is that this is the same bait and switch game they played in the 1976 swine flu vaccine disaster.

They tested one vaccine and gave a different one during the mass vaccinations.

Here we go again. Over 500 people were paralyzed with Guillain Barre disorder. The incidence was much higher, because it was not a reportable disease. And over 300 people died, which is also a very low figure.

Dr. Fauci admits that they have no idea what will happen when they mix the three viruses from the vaccines together or when they are given sequentially. When he was asked if the results of the studies would be reviewed by the health authorities, he answered, “yes, except for those done by the Novartis company.”

He justified this secrecy by saying that Norvartis had a very advanced testing system, which was done “in-house” — that is, in secrecy.

It is also important to appreciate that this vaccine has been fast-tracked, meaning that many of the usual safety precautions used to prevent contamination of the vaccines will be overlooked by the regulatory agencies.

According to a number of studies, vaccine contamination is widespread, with vaccines containing pestivirus, mycoplasma, viral fragments, DNA fragments and bacterial components, all of which can produce chronic systemic disorders, cancer, neurologic diseases and even slow brain degeneration.”

Cleveland: Flu slam dunks Cavaliers

CLEVELAND — The entire Cleveland Cavaliers team is being treated for flu as a precaution after six players reported flu like symptoms. Of that group, three players have tested positive for Influenza A, including superstar LeBron James.

H1N1 or swine flu is a strain of Influenza A. The team says the players are being treated proactively as if they have the H1N1 virus although test results are not back.

Besides James the players which tested positive for Influenza A are guard Coby Karl and forward Darnell Jackson.
In addition, guard Andre Barrett, forward Jawad Williams, and forward J.J. Hickson have presented with flu-like symptoms.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to travel to San Antonio for a match-up against the Spurs Friday Night. James is expected to make the trip and is listed as probable for the game.

The team is under the care of Cleveland Clinic doctors.
James told reporters that the illness forced him to spend an entire day in bed resting. He says he couldn’t remember the last time he was sick.

James missed the Cavs pre-season game Wednesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.

In addition to James, Karl, Jackson and Williams will make the road trip to Texas.

Barrett and Hickson will stay behind in Cleveland.

My granddaughter suffers from NKH. My son-in-law took her in for a swallow test. Thankfully, her siezures are under control, and she will be able to begin taking food by mouth again.

But while there, the doctors warned my son—in-law NOT to take the swine flu vaccine, and said that he was giving that warning to all of his patients. That is a highly respected physician in southern Ohio.

I now know atleast eight people that were tested and confirmed to have the swine flu. They are fine.

Why is it the media are not reporting the pre-existing medical conditions these people had before they got the flu and died?

There is a study that more have died from other flus in past years and being what i see in my every day living I tend to believe it is all an ObamaRahm crisis.

How can a POTUS declare a nat emergency on something his own daughters have not been vaccinated with?

My 13 yr old daughter just had a bout with the swine flu last week...did just fine. Went to school today. She was sick like you’d expect, nothing else. I have a 15 yr old son with cerebral palsy. He hasn’t had the shot yet because it isn’t available, and the whole school has been sick with it. Thats where my daughter picked it up. It’s a small school in Wyoming. No other kids have had any problems/complications with the flu. So far me, my hubby & son haven’t gotten sick....yet. Just thought it would be nice to read about people getting the flu and getting over it just fine.

My 10 year old grandson was diagnosed with it yesterday, got sick late in the day Monday, very fast. He had the definitive test done, and my husband and myself and his parents are all being given Tamiflu (well, I have another version of it due to other health problems).

It’s scary, and my other two grandsons who were visiting my daughter’s at Halloween had to see their docs today, as well. I know the extremely serious cases are rare, but we called the Dr. at once just to be on the safe side. Also, did not want to visit an ER due to tremendous crowds of sick folks there.
