The Club interviewed Rubio on Monday, and Executive Director David Keating said it was "impressed."
Donors have to be skeptical of Rubio's chances, and a Club endorsement would provide him both money and legitimacy.
"We are very concerned about the two major tax increases Charlie Crist recently signed and believe there's no excuse for his active support of the Obama big-government 'stimulus' spending bill," Keating said. "We are actively considering the race, but have made no decision yet."
The organization, which makes a habit of challenge the GOP establishment in primaries, is dancing around the issue for now. While it keeps railing against Crist's policies as governor - including nominating him for its "Comrade of the Month" earlier this week - it hasn't taken the plunge and officially got behind Rubio just yet.
Part of the reason might be in the large Senate map, especially Pennsylvania, where former Club President Pat Toomey (R) could face a difficult primary for Sen. Arlen Specter's (D-Pa.) seat. Nobody is running against Toomey yet, but the establishment has been reticent to embrace him, and he might need the Club's full backing when all is said and done.

The GOP is not in our corner. Conservatives are people they stir up every election year by telling us how bad the Democrats are.
Though I’m not a fan of the CFG, I would like it to straighten up and fly right by endorsing Rubio over Charlie Loafers.
I quit the Club For Growth because Steven Moore, the President or former president wrote pro-illegal immigration and amnesty editorials in WSJ.
Robio on immigration looks like a carbon copy of Mel Martinez, Charlene Crist and sassy Miss Lindsay Graham-nesty. I keep going to Rubio’s web site to look for his positions on issues but there is nothing.
This reminds me of Dr. Coburn when he ran for Senate in 2004. Powers at be in DC cut off his funding to give to his primary opponent. Club for Growth came into OK and helped him out. He won the primary and the general and Bush/Rove/RNC had egg on their face since they supported his opponent in the primary and Hastert made a crack three weeks before the general he was going to lose. Dr. Tom won big.
Congress could use some more fiscal conservatives.
Amen to that. The GOP still haven’t figure out that it is its fiscal irresponsibility that cost it dearly. That is a problem.
Yeah the Washington insiders are not good at calling races. It is a pity that so many at the top in the GOP still have a destructive Machiavellian bent which should be seen as totally unacceptable to the citizen sovereign. Dr. Tom Coburn is one of the best GOP leaders we have. Republicans should live by the creed that they govern solely at the grace of the people who support and elect them. We do not need candidates that can slip in under cover of dark. We need bold reformers who speak to the heart of the foundation of this nation. We need men and women who would’ve gladly stood on Bunker Hill with William Prescott running low on ammo and making every shot count if only for the hope of liberty. We also can take an example from Christ who could have ruled the world but instead rebuked the offer and took his place on his cross and transcended the world.
Very well said! I like to say that I work for a candidate to elect them and then they work for us. A lot of them forget that we are their boss once they get to Washington not the other way around where they vote for what they think is best for us.
The vast majority of time my Congressman and almost always Inhofe and Coburn vote the way Oklahomans want them to vote.
Thanks. I think Coburn and Inhofe provide a stark contrast to the likes of Barbara Boxer who recently demonstrated clearly the problem with many of our representatives. When she chastised Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh not to call her as “Ma’am” instead of “Senator” she was illustrating how she thinks of herself and her position. It would be disgusting enough it if were a common man showing her due respect and getting verbally slapped in the face but to have a General who has risked more and has more responsibility over the lives of soldiers and the protection of the citizenry than she ever will be treated in such a fashion demonstrates a level of narcissism that makes one wonder whether she received her position in an election or as a right of birth.
We are increasingly seeing from our elected and unelected officials a disdain for the will of the citizen. They attempt to manipulate us as if we are more serfs than those from which derive their power. Which is why it is important that we not only win elections but make sure we win them with the right people who are strong in word and deed and committed to honoring the uniqueness of this nation and the sovereignty of the citizen that lifts them up.
